• @wittmann:

Nasty! I love tanks, but it must have been horrific to be hit while in one.

The nasty result in most cases is that the crew is either torn apart by flying shreds of metal or is incinerated.  The Germans called the Shermans which the US had issued to the British Army “Tommy cookers.”

  • Ill join your noble quest. together we push towards Moscow! the Bolshevik scum will not know what hit them!!! Our Tigers and Panthers will lead the way to victory over the Socialists.

You forgot I will be alongside you in my Jagdpanther.
With my  L/71 88, I will keep the Heavies from getting within 2000 metres of our Schwerpunkt. The T34s will be scuttling back, reversing into each other, the crews running back to Moscow and their mummies.

It might depend on whether this is a winter or summer campaign.  From the way the Eastern Front oscillated back and forth in 1941, 1942 and 1943 – with the Germans advancing in the summers and the Russians advancing in the winters – one might almost suspect that German tanks had forward gears that operated better in hot weather and reverse gears that operated better in cold weather, with the complete opposite being true for the Russian tanks.

Never! My heroic comrades will sweep the evil fascist hordes away and avenge their violation of the holy Motherland! We will raise the Red Banner over the smouldering remains of your Panzer, and make jokes about not two of them being the same, and all of them breaking down while waiting for trucks with spare parts that got hopelessly stuck in our rasputitsa.

I’m really enjoying this nostalgic tribute to the over-the-top military exhortations that the two sides on the Eastern Front indulged in during WWII.  And each side quite often genuinely meant it.  On their way to Berlin in 1945, for example, advancing Soviet troops put a sign next to the road saying “50 KILOMETERS TO THE LAIR OF THE FASCIST BEAST.”  I think there’s a picture of it in Cornelius Ryan’s book The Last Battle.

  • Ok so far!

We got two Panthers (ABWorsham and Poloplayer15) alongside with a Tiger I Late (AeV) version and a Jagdpanther (wittmann) for now, against a 400 T-34 horde (not 40.000, let’s keep it a BIT realistic) and one JS II Tank (yavid) wich will coming our way in waves.
Rasputitsa is the choice of Herrn KaLeun ,but yavid’s Tank is a June 1944 modell so we will fight either near Minsk or a little later like in Rumania,Sevastopol is another choice as well as Königsberg Eastprussia, not much of a Rasputitsa anymore, lol (let us know witch Bolshevic Tank modell you choose Herr KaLeun, 8-) ).
CWO Marc take a side and a Tank modell, don’t be the writer, be the Tank rider and whoever wants to join us here!

Take your time German Gunners, every shot must be a Hit. (we don’t have that much ammo anymore)

Crush those Barbarians, Let us teach them how to swim in the Volga!

  • Our superior ta KS and sights will crush the waves of bolsheviks. I’ll just sit and wait. My Mg42s will bur red hot and the wall of corpses will shield my Panther from your precious T34. Meanwhile, my brothers in arms will be picking off your pathetic tanks at will. And your Is-2 will burn after our tiger takes a cracked at it

  • I am all for a Konigsberg battle. Heersgruppe Nord and German  Prussia cannot be left to the ungodly and unwashed Ivan.
We will hold them off until our glorious Kriegsmarine can evacuate every true German. None shall be violated while I command my Jagdpanzer!

    And Marc choose a side!

  • If it’s gonna be Königsberg, then our Motto should be:

    **KÖNIGSBERG WIR HALTEN!

    WE WILL HOLD KÖNIGSBERG!**

  • @wittmann:

    And Marc choose a side!

I already did so back on the first page of this thread.  I’m on the Western Front sitting beside my Pershing tank, doing some WWII-style multi-tasking: listening on the radio to the play-by-play description of the titanic struggle on the Eastern Front between the Commies – uh, sorry, I mean our gallant Soviet allies – and the Nah-zees, reading Bill Mauldin’s latest cartoon, drinking coffee and whistling “Mademoiselle from Armentières” to myself.

  • :-D :-D bahahaha  :-D :-D, I love it!

  • Marc: listen to the radio all you like. You will never find a bridge across the Rhine….or maybe you will.
War will be won or lost  in the East though.

  • I have it on good authority that what you say about the importance Eastern Front is correct.  Last night after chow, the boys in our company got shown a US Army information film and it quoted General MacArthur as saying “the scale and grandeur of the Russian effort mark it as the greatest military achivement in history.”

Now, I’ll return to the crossword puzzle I’m doing in my copy of Stars and Stripes. Let’s see…“town on west bank of Rhine, seven letters”…R-E-M-

    (WHOOSH! BLAM!)

Whoa! Was that an '88?  Hey, did any of you guys know those Panthers could shoot so darn far?

  • I do notice no one said sherman

Excellent! They were talking of Moscow and the Volga, and now we have already crossed their own borders. This must be part of the grand strategy of Generalfeldmarschall Von Manstein, which was recently summarized on the cover of a magazine published by our capitalist American allies:

“Retreat may be subtle, but victory lies in the other direction”

    @wittmann:

We will hold them off until our glorious Kriegsmarine can evacuate every true German. None shall be violated while I command my Jagdpanzer!

We’ll be glad to be of assistance in the evacuation of the German population from the area. We’ll provide compelling incentives wherever necessary. After everybody has left, we’ll add the area to the Soviet Union. Let’s see…. it’s about time for comrade Kalinin to have a town named after him. Oh, wait, he already has two?
Anyway, we’ll blow up that castle, which is a symbol of bourgeois oppression of the workers and peasants. And build a magnificent Soviet palace on top of it which we’ll never finish because nobody really needs it.

  • To bad you forgot your winter clothes.

Hey did you guys see the stand up Eddie Izzard? His an English comedian that does a part of his show on the WW2 makes alot of fun of hitler. if not check it out

  • I spoke of a coworker of my father back during the war that had two Sherman tanks shot out from underneath him.

His name Ray Webb, during the Bulge, encounter a Tiger and lost his tank. His second tank was lost to an antitank gun ambush.

He spoke of the Tiger tank, saying he was scared of encounter.

  • wow thats rough. Glad to hear he survived the encounter but man, talk about bad luck. getting two tanks shot out
