    Update: I decided to manually trace a brand new vector map so that I can squash and enlarge continents as I see fit and then rescale when I’m done so that the smallest tiles will still be enough pixels wide to hold a few unit types each. Here’s Europe and Africa – you may notice that Africa is only half the height it ‘should’ be compared to Europe, and that the UK is about 140% of its proper size, and that the English Channel and North Sea are about triple their proper sizes. I plan to continue abusing geography for our wargaming convenience until I’ve finished the whole globe. This project is taking several years longer than I originally anticipated, but I do not plan to quit. Thanks again for all your support. 🙂

    Cruisers are even worse than BBs. At least with BBs you have the potential to clean up stray ships and then repair the damage for free.

    Improved shipyards could indeed change the equation. Most people don’t like to play with tech.

    In fact, all those fighters were awesome. Game is still ongoing but I’m expecting a narrow allied win, with an asterisk from when oysteilo reminded me I had forgotten a blocker. Game was nearly lost in China of all places, with the Chinese unnecessarily allowing the Japanese through to take India J5 after a J2 DOW, by China spreading themselves too thin.

    I would still be pretty confident with a minimal bid of 54:
    DD SZ91
    ftrs Scotland, Moscow, Stalingrad, Malta
    Sub SZ98.

    Take it up to 61 and you can add a mech in Burma and an inf in Yunnan which makes most of the battles more sure and also deters the J1 DOW. A couple of battles still aren’t certain and could go against you but in most cases I think the allies should win out there.

    You are correct, until and including Revised Offshore Bombardment was part of the “Opening Fire Step”, so casualties don’t fire back in those editions.

    Which is probably why there is a rule that you have to decide your bombard casualties before the main attack roll. I think it’s a bit silly now but it works that way in Triple-A.

    @rulebook_reviewer Yeah few people buy any Cruisers or Battleships. Even in Balanced Mod where there is an additional land unit (marines) which can be carried on these ships. Loaded CVs are what people buy rather than huge numbers of DDs. You know the difference in combat ability is not that great actually - the defender always has the edge, I guess mostly because the 0/2 combat ability of CVs. But carrying planes is also useful for attacking land units, particularly islands. Keeping starting BBs is useful but if you lose them, rebuilding with CVs only is a better option.

    That Yunnan stack was scaring me. I was surprised though that the stack evacuated to the north. Planning to meet up with the forces moving south I’m guessing.
