    Well some of us devoted fans certainly think he should at least take a step closer by adding some more ships to his line-up!  Feel free to weigh in with your opinion on the discussion about it above on the “New Axis and Allies Parts Store” thread up above on this forum.

    I know we want to do a set like the current ones for each nation first. This is almost a given as Coach is adamant about finishing them. As far as complete country sets beyond this plan… time and support will tell.

    I say time and support will tell since neither I nor Coach can promise anything regarding future projects that have not been done. That said, I have yet to see Coach back down or say no to any project we’ve started! He devotes nearly every free minute of his time to making HBG products a little better, nicer, and cooler. There is no sign of HBG slowing down. In fact, we have a tough time keeping up with all the things Coach wants to do!


  • Well, in that case I hope that “a set like the current ones” means an old BB/CB, a CVE/CVL, and perhaps a paratrooper (where relevant examples exist for each of the above) for each set!  For example, Give the Frenchman a submachine gun and a beret and he could maybe serve for a paratrooper or a partisan according to customer taste, as long as his gear isn’t either to obviously civilian or para.  Give France, Britain, and Germany a CB and Italy an old (rebuilt) BB and, along with the already-made US Nevada, each has a “tweener” naval unit (Kongo serves this adequately for Japan).  Give the UK a CVE (Unyo works fine for Japan) and nobody else really had or needs a CVE (though arguments could be made for various never-built ships from France, Italy, and Germany, that’d be a low priority for me.)  For para’s, well this would involve perhaps giving 2 infantry sculpts to some, but the Axis minors and Marines got 2…  (I already mentioned my “compromise” idea for France for a piece that could be either partisan or para…)  I definitely think that the UK/Commonwealth and Italy sets need both a “hat” (Aussie or Gurkha or Chindit for Commonwealth, Bersaglieri or Alpini for Italy) and a “jump helmet” (standard para, like, say, the Red Devils for UK, Folgore Division for Italy.)  In every case the piece could be used as either an aesthetic variant or an elite/ variant of some sort for each of the nations involved.

    My previous statement was definately NOT to impune the hard work, time, money, & effort “the Coach” has put into all of these projects.

    My point was,…that YES, there are things in the future that neither he or anyone else can predict or control. Market influences, prices, contracts, etc., etc.

    HBG and FMG are both HEROES to me and many others in the A&A gaming community!
    I truly am PROUD of them and all that they have been able to produce so far.

    But through my experience in getting older(I’m 53) I’ve learned NOT to delay anything to the future,…or substitute things now that you will later change to the preferred item because,…
    the circumstances may change in the future to prevent you from completing your plans as you’d hoped.

    I’ve just become somewhat conservative-minded in my outlook is all and hoped to have the Paratroopers included in the 1st Set of each nation like was originally projected. I simply wanted to state my fear of the possibility of not getting the Paratroops for all nations, especially on a long and expensive project such as this.

    I’m proud to be a faithful soldier in the Big Green H Division of this A&A Army. Thanks again for your many efforts and victories in production.

  • I feel the next set should be a set of pieces that all nations can use:

    All in GREY like OOB Factories…

    Minor and Major Factories
    Sub Pen- protects subs in ports from air or naval attack…cost 10 IPC
    Bunker piece-- placed only when enemy forces are adjacent to home capital…protects some units from air attack results…not sure cost
    Underground factory---- this is tech unit, SBR effects are reduced in half ( rounded down)
    Fortification ( Atlantic wall style/ Maginot Line)-- against sea invasion allows units to fire first ( preemptively) or has its own shots against transports ( example: rolls 3 or less and hits go against loaded transports only before start of attack)
    Island pill box—for small islands only, +1 for all defending units
    AA guns for each nation
    Flak tower ( upgraded AA gun)—hits at 2 or less…or…fires at all planes like old AA guns used too.
    Headquarters ( a concrete structure with flag post)…flag decal supplied for each nation, used for capitals----just a show piece
    Victory cities in player colors or just grey.
    Set of tech tokens for each player so you keep token when you get tech and everybody knows it.
    coastal guns— fires against ships…perhaps 1 shot at each passing ship @1?
    sea mines–same as coastal guns ( but for sea zone)
    V-1 rocket and launch pad ---- used as tech unit for rockets…replacing the AA gun.

    I think my favorite is the “fortification” idea – the opportunity to hit loaded transports BEFORE they can land their troops. Would this be negated by accompanying warships? Perhaps on a 1:1 basis. Each transport that is paired with a warship is protected from fortification fire. If you have more transports than warships, all remaining transports can be fired on.
    You could even take it a step further by designating a level of protection from each type of warship. You mentioned fortifications get a roll of 3 or less against loaded transports. How about this idea:
    Unescorted transports: Roll of 3 or less can hit them.
    Transports with Destroyer: Roll of 2 or less can hit them.
    Transports with Cruiser: Roll of 1 can hit them.
    Transports with Battleship: Totally protected, can not be hit by fortification fire.

    What do you think? Sound like a winner?

    On a side note, this would totally suck for the invader. There’s nothing I hate more than having an enemy sink my transports when they are still full of men and equipment.

    The idea is this: SB fire first because it is longer range, hits removed, then defender if they have fortification get preemptive fire at loaded transports hitting @1 with 3 shots ( even if you got 5 transports its only 3 rolls. This occurs just once. Note: attacker picks three candidates rolling for each, if hit that selection is removed.

    It does not make sence to negate due to “warships”

    The cost will be high enough to balance it out the game. i suggest 6-8 IPC

    This is too arbitrary. Too much to deal with. It must be simple.

    It is only 3 rolls @1, just like AA guns killing 12 IPC bombers. Transport and 2 land units is about 13-15 IPC so its close. The idea is to stop the small invasions just to pick up IPC. A large Invasion wont really be effected.

    Okay, my mistake. I thought you meant fortification hit on 3 or less. You meant they only get 3 shots maximum (or 1 shot per transport if less than 3) and hit @ 1.

    Well, then my warship idea wouldn’t work. Treating them as a sort of AA gun against transports does sound better.
