Wow, you two have given me a lot to think about. We have a little while before we know for sure if Coach’s naval pieces are going to be a go or not and what ships will be included. At first, I wanted to localize the action to say, the Solomons or Midway. Then from your ideas I start to picture a supersized Pacific '41 map. Now, if I understand correctly, we are considering a series of maps where you fight battles from island to island, area to area. Like a map for each sea space on G40. Hmm, I would have to tackle these one at a time if we do it that way.

HBG's Global War 1939 FAQ
Please use this thread for any questions related to the rules or setup of Global War 1939 by Tigerman77 and HBG.
Please be aware there are two map versions, Original and Revised. You need to indicate which map you are using if your question applies, although there is almost no difference between the two as far as territories and zones.
The latest rules version is 5.0, but some problems listed below will require a version 5.1 to be released. I will indicate which pages need to be reprinted for those who have already printed 5.0. If you are using 4.1, please upgrade your ruleset to 5.0 from our BGG page:

RE: United States Set from Historical Board Gaming!
I was going to take on the task of making such a game ( Midway / Coral Sea) this winter, but it sounds like I better step it up. What do you say everybody? I will start a new thread for ideas on layout, rules, etc. so everyone can air ideas.

RE: Variable's and Tall Paul's Naval Game Ideas
IL may have a point about starting with Pac '41. I think if we zoom in on the Coral Sea / South Pacific area and make each major island multiple territories with ample sea zones for ships and landing zones (beaches) for Marines / SNLF, this could get really cool. I would like to take the general concept we have going here and let it marinate bit on my brain. I think we are starting to get into some details already that are a bit early to deal with ( unit values without an agreed upon combat system).
Lets do this. Everyone have another look at the Guadalcanal rules. Pay particular attention to the way the combat values for units are assigned. Forget the dice box thing and the way hits are chosen, just the unit values. Tell me if a system similar to this is preferred or we want to stick with the tried and true att/def stat from regular A&A and just go to a d12 system. My only complaint about the regular system is assigning a combat value that is the same regardless of target is too generic. Do you really want artillery shooting down planes? Do you think a battleship is just as good at killing infantry as it is sinking enemy warships? I think not…

RE: Has anyone heard anything from the A&A painting artist "Allworkandnoclay"?
Hey Paul,
I’ve been in contact with Chad in the past. Go to his website allworkandnoclay.com and contact him via email. Hopefully he will respond to you. I concur his stuff is great and he encouraged me to do my own painting again which came out great (check out the painted Guadalcanal in the AAGC forum). The only drawback to having him paint for you is I’m not sure he’s even had time to finish his own set yet. I think he even sold off some of his pieces already…

RE: Global Gaming Table Threads and Pictures
Thanks for doing this! This is a great resource. I’m still working on my command center, but I’ve discovered the rooms in old houses are a bit small for a G40 table… Still working on it.
Great work to everyone out there who’s command centers make the rest of us very jealous!

RE: Please Read Before Opening your Anniversary Box 2017!
Send hem an email anyway
Yes do. They didn’t really ask me for much in the way of proof. I just wanted to have it in case I was in the minority. But with the problem so prolific, I’d say get a spot in line.

RE: 1941 and the IPC/Purchasing issue
@Nowhere:
So have we come up with a solution to the purchasing problem? Or do I just bin it all and teach my 9 year old 42.2 or 50? I’d love to make this version work as it would be great for a pub battle. I’m tempted to do the +1 to every territory.
IMHO, 1941 is more a learning tool to introduce people to the game than a staple of the series. Once someone has the basics down, you’d be better-off moving-on to either 1942.2 or the new Anniversary Edition, then you don’t have to worry about “fixing” the money issue in 1941.
Well, I agree with your assessment of the games and will do so with my son. But we don’t always have time for the larger games so I was looking for a way to get more purchasing power into a small quick game. I like the simplicity of this one over, say, Revised. It takes a lot of the “level 2” rules out which is great for him. But I want him to explore more complex buys.

RE: Please Read Before Opening your Anniversary Box 2017!
Sounds exactly like mine but I had damage to all boxes. I’m betting there is a machine at the factory that installs the cardboard and had something set wrong.

RE: Please Read Before Opening your Anniversary Box 2017!
Hello everyone,
I need to warn you all to have your cameras out as you unbox your 2017 copy of Anniversary. After watching Pink Panzer’s video online and how his storage boxes and rulebook were smashed inside despite a pristine outer box, I was ready to video my entire opening. Good thing I did as mine looked the same if not worse than his. I have forwarded some pics to Wizards Customer Support and will advise you all of what happens.
Stay safe out there and good luck with all of yours!
So what did the wizards of avalon say? I have 2 messed up parts boxes and 4 us/5 russian artillary with stress creases where they weren’t taken off the sprues properly
Hey all,
Sorry it took me forever to get back. Wizards Customer Service has been great about this. They have agreed to replace what was damaged. Trouble is due to the unexpected problem and volume of complaints, like others have said it may be several weeks before replacements arrive. I’m fine with that as damaged cardboard is not something expected. People missing pieces makes sense and they would be able to replace those no problem. But cardboard boxes is a bit more unusual.
As for my theory on the damage: The boxes would normally be on top the maps, then punch outs on top of that. But I’m betting the automated process that installed the cardboard protectors was not calibrated properly or it was affected by the order of contents and crushed most everyone’s stuff before the lid ever went on.
Hope you all get what you need and sorry to AH/WOTC that this happened to them. We all know how much support this game needs to survive with WOTC and I’m sure this is not helping the bottom line.

RE: Anniversary edition reprint announced at Origins?
Andy, if you play G40 and GW36, you already use the biggest maps. AA50 is smaller than Global. It is the largest of the “'42 style” games though.

RE: Midway US Destroyers
That’s what I ended up using for mine. To help a bit, give them an early war paint scheme. Simple light grey hull with blue or dark grey decking. I think the #3 turret should be less pronounced but overall it’s a good proxy. Stats-wise they are about the same.
