As promised, here’s my book review of the audiobook on African Kaiser: General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck and the Great War in Africa, 1914-1918.
He was the only undefeated German commmander in the field during World War I, and the last to surrender his arms, two weeks after the armistice in Europe. He led the “Schutztruppe”(Defensive Force) of German East Africa, with German officers, native NCO’s and troops and German settlers.
He used guerrilla warfare against British East Africa. The Brits eventually brought in over 100,000 local troops from all over southern Africa to chase his 15,000 man army.
The book includes the story of a German battleship hiding from the Brit navy in a jungle river, and an attempt to resupply Vorbeck by Zeppelin.
I recommend this book which is very relevant to NML 1914 gamers. -
