    Empress dowager Teimei always had a fascination for the far away, exotic French island of Madagascar, so Emperor Hirohito ordered it conquered and presented to his mother for her birthday.  What a nice son.  :-D  A side benefit of the Brit bomber being downed by AA fire the prior turn, was that Brit air couldn’t sink my tt except by landing in Fr. Mad.    So my tt is safe for now.  Borneo was recovered without loss of troops.  And Wake Is was vacant, so we just walked in.

    News article today said the stern of a dd that had been struck by a mine during WWII was found off of Kiska Island, which the Japanese held from June 1942-July 1943.  Two islands in the Aleutian Island chain were the only continental U.S. land occupied by foreign forces in the past 200 years.  On a separate note, I’m listening to an audiobook entitled “The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors”, the story of the dd’s in the CV Escort group that faced down the powerful Japanese BB fleet in one of the series of battles in the Leyte Gulf on Oct 25, 1944.  Very interesting, good narrator.  The U.S. had small escort CVs that carried 1/3 the planes that the big CVs carried.  They performed sub patrol and protected small fleet operations that didn’t require the big CVs.

    D.A. outwitted me.  My only tt this turn is in India, so he invaded Cel because he could put a blocker dd to stop me from retaking it right away.  I shouldn’t have invaded Wake.  I should have put that tt in Phil instead, where I normally keep one.  Some players leverage their tt’s by sending their amphib troops on to the next isle instead of garrisoning isles.  I kept the money isles garrisoned, but just recently decided I also needed subs to prevent unescorted tt’s from invading.

    That other Jpn tt off Mad apparently caused quite a stir in Brit’s high command, as was intended.  Expensive builds in far away S. Africa and a rush to defend Egypt.  Too bad my planes can’t reach Egypt. Twas just designed to make you expend resources away from the frontline and rattle your chain from different directions, while denying you the N.O. for a few more turns.  No sense hanging around, the goal is accomplished.  Except for the gardener for the Japanese garden in Mad.
