@private-panic Thanks very much, this seems to be what I am looking for.
Axis & Allies North Africa 1939 Variant
-
@Cornwallis I should also say I have play tested mine only twice. So that’s why I say it may or may not be balanced. I mainly focused on historical accuracy for my first version.
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower Hey, looking into this variant for my son and I’s next North Africa game! Any sign of that rulebook yet, other changes from the version above?
-
@vodot Happy Thanksgiving! No there are no changes so far as of yet, the only issue is balance currently. The rulebook progress is not the greatest, i have been busy with a lot of work lately and had little to no time to work on it. I’m re-thinking the design of it, I plan on just having a google slide show of it, think that would be easier for the amount of information with this variant. Hope you enjoy, let me know if you have any feedback. I’m also here to explain rules if needed.
Adios,
France…

To everyone interested in this I found a video about something similar, apparently there was already supposed to be an early game setup… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpMlFSBzUJc

@FranceNeedsMorePower thanks for the heads-up, very interesting video!

I know this is quite late, but I finally finished reading this.
As someone who’s never played North Africa but has read the rules, here are some thoughts:
Overall, I really like this version. The timeline makes sense and the new rules and mechanics balance historical accuracy with playability and creativity well.
If I may ask, is the “white line” the Mareth Line?
Given that Free French and Vichy French units exist at the same time, are they visually distinguished? Or is it just them not being in Tunisia, Algeria, and Morrocco?
Is adding or removing units from the supply bag just showing the differences between this game’s starting setup and the setup of the out of box version(s)?
I really like giving the German player some freedom to decide what the initial Afrika Korps should be composed of.
Also, the link here
@FranceNeedsMorePower said in Axis & Allies North Africa 1939 Variant:
Used for initial framing and regional control (e.g., French troops in Tunisia, British presence in Egypt, Italian Libya). - U.S. Army Green Books (CMH.gov): Provided logistics, supply lines, and descriptions of early Allied planning in North Africa.
doesn’t work.

@SuperbattleshipYamato Hello! Glad you find interest in it! The white is that which you are speaking of, I just put a blank marker under the vichy units. The units in the supply bag are the max sculpts you can have on the board. Say there are only 2 tanks in the bag you can only have two seperate zones with tanks and the rest with have to be stacked. That role is also an out of the box rule to. That link for the website has now changed to history.army.mil.
-
@SuperbattleshipYamato If I may ask also in response to the other reply I just sent you, do you have any feedback or changes you would make?
-
@FranceNeedsMorePower I was sent an enlarged map file if interested
-
@Imperious-Leader Yes that would be helpful if you could share that, thanks!

As someone who’s never played North Africa (and certainly not this game), I have no idea what works or doesn’t work in this version.
I did notice some typos though.
