Bombed to Destruction RULE

    Lets face it,

    It’s hardly EVER when Air/Naval bases are bombed.  It’s just not worth it, considering they have built in AA, and can just be repaired at the beginning of the turn, giving the much needed -boost- to units in thier respective areas.  Thuis the effort is fruitless.

    But… what if you could bomb Air/Naval bases off the map?

    Raise the bar from a maximum of 6 damage, to a maximum of 10 damage on a facility.  Once 10 damage is reached, the Air Base, or Naval base is removed from the board permanently.  (Or until a player builds another one).
    Combine that with current SBR rules.

    Suddenly the Battle for Britain, and likewise, is a paramount air battle,  as the destruction of Air-Bases on the island is a matter of life and death for both parties.

    Just think of the effect that will have on places like West Germany, Japan, and Gibraltar.  A new element to the game!  One we’ve all wanted to see.

    I’d be really up for this but what’s to stop people from just buying a new AB/NB facility once the old one was destroyed? Perhaps their purchase costs should be raised so that players would be more willing to repair the facilities they have (as opposed to having to pay the higher cost to rebuild…)

    This idea kind of fits with a situation which might have happened at Pearl Harbor.  The Japanese strike force destroyed ships and planes, but Nagumo declined to send in an additional strike which would have targeted the shipyards and oil-storage tanks.  I think Nimitz himself considered this to have been a grave error on Japan’s part, since destroying Pearl’s infrastructure could have prolonged the war substantially.

    in short, there’s NOTHING stopping someone from building a new one… except that it’s 15 IPC’s.

    ANd more importantly… doesn’t get placed until the END of said player turn.  Making the reason to commit to the bombing raid, all that more important.



  • Good implications for Battle of Britain etc.  At $10 it would basically take hits from 3 tactical or 2 strategic bombers to destroy a base (after AA).  The best part is it could kill some very gamey phoney baloney moves involving gratuitous bases.  For example:

    J1 Japan takes Chahar
    J2 Japan builds airbase in Chahar and lands bombers there
    UK2 UK pacific bombs Chahar airbase
    USSR3 Russia bombs it a second time, destroying it
    J3 no Japanese SBR of Moscow
