    • RE: Global 1942 Scenario by Larry Harris

@GN. The scenario is designed for tournament play to allow for it to be played at conventions and the like in a shorter period of time than OOB G40.

If you’re looking for something more like G40 there are a few scenarios designed by forum members you should search for. Midnight Express and Oztea are two site members who have made some scenarios for Global set in 42 and 43.

      Good Luck.

    • RE: Global 1942 Scenario by Larry Harris

Well like the scenario or hate it. It does keep the game healthy. Axis & Allies can be a huge investment for a gamer. Although not the same type of game, a game like Flames of War, Bolt Action, M44 and various other war games thrive on scenarios and such. This keeps those franchises healthy.

So while some may not care for this scenario it does extend the longevity and replayability of the game.

    • RE: Chrome paint on B-17's for that unpainted-aluminum look?

There were quite a few B-17Gs with aluminum non-painted skins toward the end of the war. Same thing with the B-24 as well as other late war US aircraft. There wasn’t as much of a need to paint them for many reasons too numerous to name but, mostly because it meant they could be sent out in a much quicker time frame. Additionally there was less of a need to protect the airframe with paint from corrosion as the war was seen to be ending and more units in-theater meant a quicker defeat for the Axis. Last but definately not least, paint adds a lot of weight to aircraft. Commercial aircraft are usually white because it weighs the least of all colors on the airframes surfaces.

    • RE: Reality wrecking destroyer rules need a revamp…

Here’s my take. 86 all the specialized rules for subs, destroyers and transports. Treat them like any other unit. Allow subs to make an “SBR” in convoy zones. Allow Destroyers in those zones to act as “AAA” if applicable.

First bump the sub defense back up to 2.

In the case of non-global games use SZs adjacent to ICs as convoy zones. Keep the sub’s range the same but allow them to return to a friendly SZ after a “commerce raid”, remember they must have range just like an aircraft unit.

Allow planes to take out subs and allow subs to fire back assuming they would have AAA capability, which not exactly historical, but did happen and is somewhat plausible. Same for TRNs.

Let TRNs defend at 1 all other OOB rules apply.

To balance it out let DDs support amphibious assault for one round 1:1 infantry, CAs 1:2, and BBs 1:3. All other OOB rules would apply.

Third, let APs, DDs, and SS just be one price 8 IPCs. Their abilities and advantages amongst each other at the same price-point (IMO) negate much of the debate of “fodder/balance/etc.” BS.

Just my take. Have at it guys  🙂

    • RE: Advice on some house rules

Baron I will be as kindly as I can. While many appreciate your posts it would be appreciated by myself and many of the community for you specifically, to refrain from over-posting and commenting on every single thing that comes upon the House Rules forum.

While i know you put a lot off work into your posts, and there is a language difference, your posts are not always appreciated, especially when you post over and over, and over and over, and over and over again. I may speak for myself, speaking without disrespect; but you really need to shut up on occasion. You’re constant droning and vomiting endless calculations is drat rating to new participants and veterans alike.

I apologize for being so blunt or if I seem un kind. However please be more selective in the conversations on this board which you engage in. your comment is appreciated on this board but flooding the board is un-mannered and obnoxious.

    • RE: A plea for originality in mapmaking…

I’ve always wanted a map that had Calais and Normandy with their own space on the board. Close seconds would be Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Germany and the UK broken into more territories. Not to any specific historical boundary due to it being WWII, but so you could do Quasi-Cold War scenarios afterwards.

My comment was more out of frustration than anything. Out of politeness I removed it. I have been away from this website for a long time. My comment was directed more to something I see happening still even after so many months and it’s a shame.

    • RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!

I must say of the recent HBG sets this US set is my favorite. I was “meh” about the B-24. Once I opened up those little bags though I thought WOW! It looks great along with B-17 and all the other US planes.

      @toblerone77:

      Doug,

Have you and the guys ever thought of using Youtube and other forums to advertise some of your already existing product? Many of your battle markers and tokens would be gobbled up by Flames of War and Bolt Action players. I think a demo of HBG minis being used for Memoir '44 battles would also be a boon to your sales. Lastly there are players who play other games that may become interested in Global War when they see what they might be missing out on.

I listen to several podcasts in different genres of war gaming. They frequently point their listeners to small companies that make accessories or custom minis simply because they love the product. Often, (like HBG) the smaller companies they advertise or mention make a less expensive and superior product to the OOB pieces and accessories.

I would love to find someone who would do this for us and work out pay in trade or work out something where we do not spend too much money. We are doing some videos for 1936 and plan on doing more but I agree we need to do a better job showing our product. If you know someone interested in doing this have them PM me.
      Thanks

While I am no expert I have some suggestions and ideas that would cost you very little or nothing at all. I am feeling very much under the weather at the moment but I would be happy to PM you when I’m feeling better.

Hey Coach. If you don’t mind answering, can you say about where the pre-orders are at as far as how many have been shipped? I think I’m not sure how many people ordered before I ordered mine but I’m salivating to get my hands on them. Anyways the models look great and I’m green with envy for you guys that have yours.

PS. Thanks Doug to you and the HBG crew and all your hard work!
