RE: Advice on some house rules
Baron I will be as kindly as I can. While many appreciate your posts it would be appreciated by myself and many of the community for you specifically, to refrain from over-posting and commenting on every single thing that comes upon the House Rules forum.
While i know you put a lot off work into your posts, and there is a language difference, your posts are not always appreciated, especially when you post over and over, and over and over, and over and over again. I may speak for myself, speaking without disrespect; but you really need to shut up on occasion. You’re constant droning and vomiting endless calculations is drat rating to new participants and veterans alike.
I apologize for being so blunt or if I seem un kind. However please be more selective in the conversations on this board which you engage in. your comment is appreciated on this board but flooding the board is un-mannered and obnoxious.

RE: A plea for originality in mapmaking…
I’ve always wanted a map that had Calais and Normandy with their own space on the board. Close seconds would be Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Germany and the UK broken into more territories. Not to any specific historical boundary due to it being WWII, but so you could do Quasi-Cold War scenarios afterwards.

RE: Advice on some house rules
My comment was more out of frustration than anything. Out of politeness I removed it. I have been away from this website for a long time. My comment was directed more to something I see happening still even after so many months and it’s a shame.

RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
I must say of the recent HBG sets this US set is my favorite. I was “meh” about the B-24. Once I opened up those little bags though I thought WOW! It looks great along with B-17 and all the other US planes.

RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
@coachofmany:
Doug,
Have you and the guys ever thought of using Youtube and other forums to advertise some of your already existing product? Many of your battle markers and tokens would be gobbled up by Flames of War and Bolt Action players. I think a demo of HBG minis being used for Memoir '44 battles would also be a boon to your sales. Lastly there are players who play other games that may become interested in Global War when they see what they might be missing out on.
I listen to several podcasts in different genres of war gaming. They frequently point their listeners to small companies that make accessories or custom minis simply because they love the product. Often, (like HBG) the smaller companies they advertise or mention make a less expensive and superior product to the OOB pieces and accessories.
I would love to find someone who would do this for us and work out pay in trade or work out something where we do not spend too much money. We are doing some videos for 1936 and plan on doing more but I agree we need to do a better job showing our product. If you know someone interested in doing this have them PM me.
ThanksWhile I am no expert I have some suggestions and ideas that would cost you very little or nothing at all. I am feeling very much under the weather at the moment but I would be happy to PM you when I’m feeling better.

RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
Hey Coach. If you don’t mind answering, can you say about where the pre-orders are at as far as how many have been shipped? I think I’m not sure how many people ordered before I ordered mine but I’m salivating to get my hands on them. Anyways the models look great and I’m green with envy for you guys that have yours.
PS. Thanks Doug to you and the HBG crew and all your hard work!

Dicetruction?
Any other fans of the Dicetruction Podcast know what happened to the show?

RE: Expanding on Units - New and OOB Types
Haven’t chimed in on one of theses for a while as I have been actively playing other games. I have an idea for my own variant of A&A that will be slaughtering many a sacred cow.
Here’s the general idea. The new units (HBG Table Tactics OOB mods) will be awarded as free techs each turn determined by die roll. The game will be heavily based on luck and weapons will be extremely up-gunned via extra dice. The game will be strictly for fun, and most importantly, for speed and ease of play.
It’s not entirely fleshed out but the hope is to have it ready for the holiday season.

RE: Worth it or not?
If you are a collector I say yes. Honestly as someone who spends a lot on games besides A&A I would say if it’s cheap just buy it. I wouldn’t go nuts and call it a must have for the non-collector. For a while it was about $20 US and I bought some as gifts and own three copies myself. I guess it depends on the price.

RE: WAR ROOM II - The Sequel
Do you play Bolt Action DK? Those models look great.

RE: FMGCon 2015 Sept 12-13 - CONCLUDED - PICS UP at WWW.FMGCON.COM!
It’s cool to see Bolt Action on the list. I just picked up a German Heer and US Army 1000 pt. starter armies. Won’t be able to make it this year but BA is a very good game to be included in this event.

RE: Any new A&A?
I have advocated Fantasy Flight’s purchasing of the Axis & Allies franchise for a very long time. Thier sculpts and production are top of the line.

RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
Any progress on the US pre-order?

RE: Lets support A&A playing YouTubers (NEW VIDEO)
I agree there aren’t that many. One thing that may help is “cross-pollinizing” from A&A gamers by combining their interests. I.e. if you like other games include them in your podcast or Youtube channel.
I play Memoir '44, ToI, and am getting into Bolt Action and Flames of War in the WWII genre. In the future I would like to do some Vloging or possibly a podcast. If I did I would probably aim for a WWII gaming theme.
In essence a strategy games channel or a WWII gaming channel many times introduces people to games they never knew existed. For me it was the reverse I’ve loved A&A since I played it and ignored M44 until I “linked into” it via M44. Someone who likes something else may also like A&A.
A good example of this is a couple of Portland/Seattle MeetUp groups that specialize in A&A but play a lot of other war games in their clubs. Sometimes they even have airsoft events!

RE: John Brown's Painted Axis and Allies Pieces
@LH. I have seen a few things 3D printed and they really aren’t that rough depending on the sculpt. There are some 3D prints of war game miniatures that look really good. They can in many cases can be sanded. It also depends on the plastic filament used and the DPI of the printer. The primary two plastics for printing are ABS and PLA. ABS is more durable but uses high temperatures to print while PLA prints at lower temperature but isn’t as strong.
I’m not sure what your experiences are with gaming miniatures but the printed ones can be just as easily prepared for paint in most cases

RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
You’re correct Marc at high volume it is cheaper to manufacture overseas. What I mean is the high production cost of the molds verses smaller printed domestic runs.
I’ve researched quite a bit about miniature manufacture. Although I’m no expert. I’m curious to see what HBG’s take is and what place they see themselves in the future.
-
RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
I would agree LH. Injection molding is superior. I pose the question because of the market and the place a small company like HBG and others are positioned.
There’s only so many miniatures to make for A&A and similar games that I wondered if the direction HBG was going was to; go with smaller but more numerous releases, or larger less frequent releases due to the high cost of overseas manufacturing.
-
RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
Just a question for HBG. Is HBG moving more towards 3D printing rather than plastic injection molding in it’s product line? If so are you move toward more frequent smaller 3D, rather than larger and less frequent injection molded set? Or will you begin going more toward larger more frequent 3D sets ?

RE: Transport planes
As usual knp great minds think alike. I allow 1 capacity for airborne assault and 2 capacity for ncm.
I just skimmed over this topic so I haven’t super analyzed costs. But fwiw, I’m not for limiting special units when I set out my HRs generally I just adjust for cost or abilities. So let’s say someone wants to attempt a massive airborne assault they’re going to need money.
