TripleA 1.8.0.7 Stable Has Been Released


  • Have managed to uninstall Arcade Twist and the links seem to have gone. Do I need to keep FileOpenerPro?

    Surely I am not the only one to have these unintended downloads accompanying 1807?


  • PP, it seems that you have downloaded crapware with tripleA.

    tripleA itself does NOT contain any crapware like this - so one has to be really careful about downloading from sourceforge.

    When installing 1805 next to 1807 please make sure to install to another installation directory.

    On my drive it is (better say “was” as I already deleted 1805):

    x:\Games\triplea_1_8_0_5
    and
    x:\Games\triplea_1_8_0_7

    (x stands for any hard drive)

    I always download the “all platforms”-zip file, to be found here:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/tripleamaps/files/TripleA/stable/1_8_0_7/

    and unzip it manually to the above location. This way I can be sure that no unintended crap will be installed with it.

    Inside this directory at the said location there is a tripleA.exe that starts tripleA for Windows.

    Sounds like you did not actually download triplea, but instead clicked some stupid advertisement which was trying to pretend to be your download.

    I also humbly suggest installing some ad-blocking plugin, after switching to using Chrome or Firefox.  You should also uninstall whatever weird crap you just downloaded, and have your computer checked for viruses and adware.

    I believe that Veqryn has it right. I do not think I was ever prompted for a file location.

    I’ll sort it out when I can spend some time at the computer. Hopefully my experience will help other techno-phobes to avoid the problem, since I did follow the steps/links indicated earlier in this thread.


  • All sorted now and just took a forum go using 1807.

    The problem was my own stupidity. At some point in the process sourceforge offered me a great big download button, which I carelessly clicked. The triple a download button was much less obvious.

    Hopefully anyone reading this will now be able to avoid the trap!

  • i second that, really wonderful work. you can’t be thanked enough.

    i too am experiencing the inability to retreat during a naval battle. unfortunately, this could be a really big problem!

    I think this has already been reported in the bud tracker. It looked like it was diagnosed but I haven’t seen anything about a fix.

    can someone please confirm if this problem happens in 1.8.0.5 as well, or is it new to 1.8.0.7?

    and also, can someone please confirm if this problem happens in a FRESH 1.8.0.7 game (ie: start the game from scratch using 1807)?

    Confirmed.
    I did not have this problem in 1805.
    The retreat problem happened in a fresh game with 1807.

    I can confirm that this issue was present in the pre-release Jars leading up to the stable release. I mentioned it in the AI dev thread.

    The issue is particularly pronounced in the G1 opening for global. Where the German attacker can get stuck in sz 110 and sz 111 battles, unable to retreat.

    We will probably need to do a new release 1.8.0.9 but will need to discuss with Veqryn.

    Just downloaded, seems to work for me. No more skipping the combat phase in sz 111, the German battleship is free to strafe once more hehe

    @all - We are looking to release 1.8.0.9 shortly due to the naval retreat bug that was found and fixed. I’ve uploaded the pre-release equivalent of that and would appreciate some assistance testing various maps, game types, etc to make sure there aren’t any issues.     Here is the change log:

    • Bug fix, retreat from naval combat was not possible, now fixed
    • Increase scroll speed when using arrow keys. Holding down control speeds up arrow key scroll
    • Map edge scroll zone now larger, placing map next to the very edge of the map increases scroll speed even more
    • AI: Fixed calculating defenses on maps with air/naval bases to properly calculate enemy range
    • AI: Fixed bug around not defending against enemy units that were transported the previous turn (they were being marked as already transported when potential enemy attacks were calculated)
