2014 G40 league rules

  • Then you find our current playoffs thrilling because they are ALL elimination games!  :-)

If you have double elimination, then a lot of games are not elimination games……

Glad you like playoff brackets, MagicQ - enjoy 'em while they last, I guess

Maybe next spring there will be another 2v2 tourney?
You never know when a new tourney will start.

:-) At least let him play for 3-4 rounds…

Well he goes for a sealion.

I’ve won I think 8 or 9 out of 10 games after losing London (One being one of my very first games on this site, when I was way worse than now), but almost all these games did take longer than the average game.

So 3-4 rounds shouldn’t be the problem.

It’s really interesting how inefficient Sealion is. I’ve tried it two times with Axis too, successfully both times. Still lost both of these games.
I’m not saying it doesn’t work. But you really have to hope that you don’t lose much Aircraft, everything more than 2 is hurting your chances a lot. And even then…

  • '19 '18

I should add, that I didn’t play a lot of games against the very best players (according to your ranking), so maybe (read: probably) my experience with sealion is limited.

  • No, my experiences have been similar - I have never lost a game where Sealion was attempted, whether successful or not.

  • Every league player deserves a chance to chase for Champion title in the playoffs as a reward for the effort they make in the regular season,  no matter how small that chance may be.  Like recently a not well-known player ‘B’ beat a very best player ‘A’ in regular game. But player B didn’t get a chance for champion. That is a pity imo. We want to see black horse in the playoffs you know. Bigger scale of playoffs makes that happen.

Maybe we still allow a full year regular season and let all players in 1 playoffs bracket. Only a thought.

I do agree, that it’s more exciting to see all players participate in the playoffs. It’s always fun to watch an underdog suddenly rise to fame (even if he only reaches quarterfinals maybe, when everyone thought he’d go out first round).

However, since A&A via forum is such a long game, increasing the number of rounds might lead to playoffs lasting for half a year. I fear all the excitement for a playoff tournament is going to vanish if it takes so long. That’s only my feeling and speculation, though.

    Disagree  :-)

bmnielsen needed to complete 8 games during the regular season just like anyone else.  It is not too much of a pity that he is not in the main playoff.  First of all, completing 4 games he is competing in the 2nd playoff.  Second of all, there’s next year.  He hasn’t been with us for most of the year, to my knowledge.

Just wait for March madness and you can get your Cinderella story fix there.
This year, we started out with league rules being that ONLY THE TOP 2 players by win % with at least 4 games played would be playing for the championship.  So 2 4-0 players could go at it while players like Allweneed and I would not be participating in any post-season play at all.

If you want a big tournament involving tons of people, you can have one.  But that’s not what the league is for.  You can sponsor a tournament in the tournament area or get someone else to do it - as far as I know there’s nothing stopping anyone from hosting tournaments at any time.

  • Also, your “not well-known player ‘B’” was 4-0 in the 2013 regular season with PPG of 3.75, putting him in 12th place, so this win was really not that big of a surprise.

I think it would be a pity if a player who only played 4 games in the league (beating 4 tier 3 and tier 4 players) came along and knocked 23-2 Allweneed or 25-3 Gamerman01 13-2 Alexgreat, 21-4 Hobo, Arathorn, Hank, or Cow out of the playoffs in the first round, denying us all the chance to see the players who have been league heavyweights all year go at it.

  • Agree completely, I only started playing sometime over the summer so it’s only fair that I should prove myself first. And as Gamer pointed out, my four completed 2013 games weren’t against league heavyweights, though in my defence they were tier 2 and 3 when I started them :)

With the potential for a game to take months, I can’t think of any way the playoffs could be expanded and have all the logistics work out. Plus it makes the regular season meaningless except for seeding, which I think would be unfortunate.

    what’s “March madness”?

  • @variance:

    what’s “March madness”?

    Can’t you google it?  :-)

USA College Men’s Basketball tournament of 64 teams.  Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4…
    They play mainly in March

  • '17 '16 '15 '14 '12

Sorry, i read a post above and guessed it was some kind of league event in March

If the USSR while at peace with Japan moves into Korea when occupied by the USA who is at war with Japan, what happens if Japan attacks Korea?

  • '17

I believe the USSR can’t move units into Pacific map territories outside of original Soviet territory without being at war with Japan (even if tripleA allows it, that’s not how the rules work).

  • '17

Just noticed my answer was slower than the FAQ, sorry for being redundant

  • And as I added in the FAQ, in case this is what you were wondering, if the USSR DID declare war on Japan and moved into USA controlled Korea, if Japan attacks Korea, nothing happens, because the rule says only if Japan attacks soviet-controlled territories that border Mongolia.  Korea does not border Mongolia.  Korea is only part of the Mongolia rules for when the USSR attacks Korea, it always nullifies the pact - the Mongolians will never instant join USSR in the future if USSR attacks Korea.

  • '19 '18

As a general rule, I always remember this:

The first nation of these two (Japan and UdSSR) that attacks a territory bordering Mongolia and belonging to the other power triggers the Mongolia rule. Additionally, Russia triggers it, by attacking Korea.

  • '22 '20 '19 '18 '17 '16 '15 '14 '12

There is an error then with Tripple A.  It allowed me to move USSR into US occupied Korea without formal DOW.
