I have not played Japan very often but I am not one to hit the US right off. I like to secure China and the DEI first. Cripple or take India and pressure the ANZAC’s is next while harrassing the US with landings in Alaska and the Philipeans. Alaska doesn’t really mean that much but most US palyers will not want Japanese forces in North America. Once Japan’s IPC level is up and I can build more capitol ships and planes, that is when I move to really hit the US fleet. An Aggressive US player will make this stratagy much harder to pull off though. the game I am currently playing, the Japan player did hit the Hawaiian fleet on round one and took it on round two. The US player has been so focused on the Japan player that the Italians have taken Brazil and the Germans have landed in the West Indies and convoy raided the east coast of the US. Britain has had no help and is barely hanging on. The round 1 DOW can work if you have the right kind of player in position. To give the US player credit, he has begun to make some better playes and is pushing back but he is having to regain alot of lost ground which really help the axis players be more aggressive.
Can japan park his fleet on pearl harbor?
-
was allies and I always thought powers not at war can’t park on the other power’s island sea zone.
-
they  can i think, they just dont block movement out of it
“Movement: A power’s ships don’t block the naval movements of other powers with which it’s not at war, and vice versa. They can occupy the same sea zones.”
-
There are restrictions for some of the nations when neutral where they can move their units. Like for the USA.
I don’t seem to recall seeing such restrictions for Japan though, so my immediate guess would be: Yes, they can.
-
I kind of want something official. However I thought I read somewhere that powers cannot move on sea zones containing a territory they do not own… like japan can’t go to borneo’s sea zone without being at war.
-
No, that’s not quite it.
In Alpha 3 -
Japan can’t be in a seazone adjacent to a sea zone next to Alaska/Wus/Smx.
That is, you can’t place yourself in a position so that America can’t block a mainland attack.
Other than that, there are no restrictions to Japan. In Alpha 2, there are none at all.
US has a restriction, which I think is what you’re thinking of, in which they cannot be in a sea zone adjacent to or containing Japanese territory.
Japan can be in Borneo’s sea zone while at peace with UK. No problems there.
-
Is there anything official on this?
-
Alpha 3-
Movement: A power’s ships don’t block the naval movements of other powers with which it’s not at war, and vice versa. They can occupy the same sea zones.
….
Political Situation - Japan:
When not yet at war with the United States, in addition to the normal restrictions (see Powers Not at War with One Another above), Japan may not end the movement of its sea units within two sea zones of the Western United States or Alaska territories. From Larry’s site:

Yes he clearly quoted the rules in alpha 3, thats official.
-
So there are no powers not at war restrictions?

You cannot park on Pearl, as explained, but Midway is legal. I have taken just a carrier to Midway on J1 while pushing hard in to China and waited to see US1. It is possible to destroy the whole of their fleet and take Pearl on J2. This is not ideal, as Japan loses hers too, but I play someone whose US2 is to park off Aus , so i have to DOW on 2 knowing i could lose Carolines. Very annoying!
-
Park a FAT contingent at the Carolines, with air support J1, they’ll be rethinking where the American fleet gets placed…
-
the two schools of thought collide. some prefer all off of FIC area (all the air there to hit any china or burma stack). Others like the caroline load.

No. You CAN park at Pearl, as explained. SZ 26 is not WITHIN 2 spaces of West USA.
The US, while not at war with Japan, cannot end a move in a seazone that touches Japanese territory.
Japan, while not at war with the US, cannot end a move within 2 seazones of West US and Alaska. Those are the only two territories with this requirement - the Aleutians, while an “alaskan territory” is NOT Alaska. These seazones are: 1,2,3,8,9,10,11,12.
It does not mean 2 seazones away from SZ 1, 2 & 10; it means 2 seazones away from West US and Alaska, which include 1, 2, & 10 as the first of those 2 seazones…
-
Is that what everyone thinks? What bothers me more is that US can wait by Aus before a DOW and therefore safeguard that VP city and threaten Japanese expansion. Japan cannot be everywhere! Hope to play again soon, but my friend will only do so if we place
the 18 Russian units from Global on the map. I will never win with alpha 3.9! But I am not whingeing. -
Now I am confused.
-
Sorry cow, just reaAnjou can park on Pearl. You count as Kcdzim said.
-
See Krieghund’s statement on this, too:

Pretty clear.
-
Wow! I’ve been playing it wrong all along. But putting the Jap fleet at Pearl is REALLY leaving yourself in danger.

But also a way to freak out an Allies player and perhaps bait them into a 100% Pac. strategy ;)
