    Oh, okay.  Yeah, figured it was something in that region.  Its very powerful for J indeed.
    I don’t know if I get it all that often.  I sometimes need Man instead of Sum (or I’m worried about defending Sum from a US heavy Pac move.  Maybe you just go Sum early (J2??) and deal with it right away.  Then again, I don’t think I’m all that great as the Axis.  Sure if things go right on G1-J1 I’m fine.  But avg to bad starts for Ger, just really slow me down (particularly with strong Russian play).  And with J, I have similar issues as my US play, just how much to put into the Pac and how aggressive to be there.  Particularly if G struggles, is it best to just do “normal” Japan and figure an eventual Moster J can take out Russia even if Ger and Ita fall or do you divert and immediately go to the Mid East or Med for reinforcements to Europe (other than planes) or harass US at the expense of a super strong Russian push.

    I’ve noticed quite a few of the top players abandon Fra on G1 (either out of necessity or just for a stronger push East early) and I’m considering it for future games.  I usually defend with 3-4 inf and a couple planes, but I know I have a tough time on G2 maintaing the inf to really secure Epl (esp against Strong Russian tank buys).  So maybe that’s one area I can improve my Axis play.

    As for the Allies, I think I’m starting to get them down much better.  Would have done some things different this game, certainly conceding the Pac is not really a good move but I felt I wasn’t going to get anywhere (messed up earlier with the US) so I didn’t really want to waste anymore resourses there.

    I won’t do SUM unless I am confident I can control the Pacific. Your Pacific naval loss and your Atlantic fleet move gave me the “green light” for SUM. I NEVER put an IC in MAN. Your JPN IC should be able to produce enough for that area.

    IMO, you need to match the US Pacific fleet purchase every turn to ensure you can control the Pacific.

    If G falls fast you are done. That is why I make conservative purchases early, INF & ARM, regardless G can effectively “turtle” and hold Euro for quite a while allowing J to hit back at Russia. If G is weak and needs help I’ll push on Russia’s door w/J and leave the med & afr alone. Also, sending fgt’s to help defend I & G, is a real advantage.

    Yeah, I’ve had this done to me and done it myself. It depends how strong the G opening is IMO. If the UK has the lone trn left and multiple targets to hit w/the AF, z5 & 6, I’ll usually leave 1-2 inf and perhaps a fgt in FRA. I just hate to give away 11 IPC’s on T1. I feel, with a G1 purchase of inf, art & arm that I can get back into Eastern Euro w/strength quickly.

    @DarthMaximus:

    Agreed!! IMO it can’t be done.

    Thanks for the feedback.  There isn’t much strat talk in the forums (since G40 came out), so I like getting in my strat talk somewhere.

    I usually go (for ICs), Fic then Bur, then hopefully Ind.  I have sort of naturally gotten away from Man, but once in a blue moon, I might throw one up there 1st.  If I was hammered on J1.  Which for me seems to happen a lot.  I’m actually moving away from attacking Yun on J1 cause I absolutely get hammered there every time.

    I got a bit ansty in the Pac early and with this game and my tourney game against Yoshi, I’ve learned no subs for US.  I just can’t make it work.  Nothing like the tried and true ACs + ftrs.  Air power is unbelievable.  The range, the off and def numbers, and the versatility are huge.

    Agreed.  You can’t afford to skimp.  Or better yet why risk it.  Japan can usually afford to match, so that is definitely a solid play.  Asia can’t really fight back anyway.

    Definitely agree about G falling fast.  I like Inf + Arm.  I typically base my arm on number needed to prevent Rus from moving to Epl (if I can’t stack it).  I like getting my full 10 units on the board.

    Yeah, I really don’t like to do it.  But I have the hardest time handling a KGF (as the Axis), so I really can’t figure it out.  lol!
