@Krieghund Thanks again for all your fast replies. And seems I am getting most issues right.
Having said that: being VERY far removed from your level of (tacit) knowledge of all things A&A among some of the guys (sorry no ladies unfortunately) that I play with I am known as ‘the guy that is looking for rules issues and strange/improbably combinations of rules…’ - and in this case: cards :)
Where WOTC got the idea for this game…

Yea unstoppable army of ….ZOMBIES!!!
Indiana Jones is another movie based off this rumour as is Hellboy.
….Neither of which is coming out the same time as AAZ
-
my point was that zombies/occult/sci-fi and WWII is nothing new. Been a theme for a long time.
Overlord is just another in a long line of movies.

Actually it’s from Walking Dead. This question was asked personally to the creators. It has been a running joke with the people to do a Zombie Axis and Allies and when Wizard bought the rights to the game, the CEO who is a huge Axis and Allies fan by the way took it serious.
-
makes sense. TWD was a huge success both in comics and TV series.
The trick now is to get the creators to joke about an A&A Mediterranean game :-D

A&A Mediterranean Zombie game
-
sure, why not, and then we can bin the zombies and play a regular A&A game.
win-win situation
-
Who knows what they have on the table, they said they have more AnA ideas.
-
For my semi-serious take on where they got the idea to mash zombies into A&A, have a gander at this post from http://axisallies1940.blogspot.com from back in November of 2013:
http://axisallies1940.blogspot.com/2013/11/new-axis-allies-pieces.htmlI think we may have our culprit now!

Surely Axis and Allies and Aliens would have been more interesting, with the humans gradually adapting alien tech and reluctantly co-operating against them but with a view to ultimate victory.
And I’ve got zombies already; I want little green aliens with ray guns.
I also want Axis and Allies and Apes:

But I like the infantry only production in China and India. Always advocated this, but should be Australia as well.

My first introduction to WWII/Nazi Zombies was from Heavy Metal: The Movie (1981).

I feel like the Mediterranean is too large for a tactical game (D-Day, BoB, etc), but too small for a “theatre” game.
-
True it has size issues. Maybe that is what is needed though. The battle games didn’t work as hoped so maybe a change of scale is needed.
What is needed is new ideas/scale/eras to make the continuing of the series viable.

The name ‘Axis & Allies’ refers specifically to WWII
-
I like variety. When I play Diplomacy, Supremacy 2020, Conquest Of The Empire, Shogun, etc, I actually enjoy that the core rules and mechanics are fundamentally different than A&A.

Harry Turtledove is an author who writes alternative history books. I enjoyed this one. You may already know about him though.
