Bold wants to give me a 48 IPC bid with the following stipulations: Per league rules with added restrictions of no more than +1 unit in any given territory or sea zone. So as tempted as I would have been to put 16 infantry in Paris and see if Napoleon could recreate the empire, I guess that’s out of the window! :-o
I’m not all up on how to make tripleA work, so you’ll have to excuse me about getting the map up and running so you can download and go, but I’ll just post the bid here and let you edit it, if you don’t mind.

Assuming Jen’s pick above is final, I would have made the Royal Navy / RAF nearly invincible with that type of money (1 fighter in 111, total of 4 destroyers in 111/ 110/106/91, 1 sub in 98). Would make for a very tough G1 and I1 and instant pressure in Europe :-D. Not sure how Bold could be comfortable with a bid like that as it seems to completely change the game.

Because this is my second game ever of Second Edition and my first game isn’t done yet? He’s counting on mistakes. lol
I thought of an all navy bid or a mostly all navy bid for England but the thought occurred to me that one major avenue for success for the Axis is the attack on Russia with the capture of Moscow. Not adding in ground units for Russia just seemed wrong on SOOOO many levels. I mean, I won’t really sit here and explain the WHOLE rationale behind what I chose, why I chose it and why I put it where I did, but all navy was a serious consideration! Also was doubling the Chinese airforce (or tripling it for that matter) or doubling the Russian air force (which would just be nasty on so many levels), lastly I considered just finding a spot for 16 infantry on the board, since most bids tend to be infantry.
Wow a league ranked game with +48 . . . . I’ll be watching this one to see how Bold handles this. Man, Bold feel free to give me a +48 bid any time you want! Oh geez, I don’t know what I’d do with +48. Sooo many options. Really Kibosh the Japanese, sink the entire Italian navy on turn one, beef up the UK navy, etc. Heck I’d probably put down a minor in Egypt.
I think I would’ve concentrated my bid in one area and really apply the screws to Germany or Japan. But I like what Jenn’s done. She doesn’t know this version as much and it’d be easy for her inexperience to lead to a poor bid or concentrate on one side too long. A balanced bid with a little bit for everyone seems like the right call in this situation.
I’m curious about the sz99 placement though. Is she baiting a strike from Germany hoping to kill some air? Or maybe she’s wanting to draw some stuff away from sz111 & sz110?

I find the single most important terr is Greenland. You should build an airbase and naval base on it as soon as you can. Also, ensure that you keep at least 10 ground units backed up by fighters and bombers on it as a garrison. It also helps if you have a nice fleet around it. I usually find that 4 loaded carriers + dd/subs is enough, but sometimes you might need a 5th or even 6th carrier. Another often overlooked terr is French madagascar, although you should be fine with garrisoning it with half the above forces.

I disagree, the best Allied strategy is for Russia to build a minor in Caucasus and build a battle fleet there. Once the fleet is strong enough, you build transports and put all your original land units on the transports to keep them safe.

I’ve played one round of this game in TripleA. Â Bid placement worked great there, Arathorn’s afraid to come out and play round 2…okay okay, fine, so he also got smushed by the dice a little, nothing drastic, I just think he over extended so a bad set of dice is compounded…he claims to be coming back or be back by now, I dunno, told him he could post in July again. :P
As for my balanced approach, part of that is to do with the 1 unit per territory restriction. Â Otherwise, AC+2 Fighters+2 Submarines in SZ 98 would be really nice to have, kill Italy off and keep them from growing through application of CRD!!
BTW, that’s a typo on Sea Zone 99, it should be 98. Â Per league bidding rules, you cannot place naval units in sea zones you do not start with naval units present in anyway, but yea that cruiser’s supposed to be with the Egyptian fleet, just to clarify.
Note, I checked the others, just to make sure I had territory names correct. Â Infantry/Artillery for Russia should be behind the front lines a step (or Caucasus) with an Armor on the Far East. Â China’s got a pair of Artillery flanking Yunnan, honestly couldn’t think of a better place to put them and wanted a pair for China since they rarely get to build more (at least they rarely did in Alpha 2) and the British have a naval unit added to the warships on both sides of the Med. Â

Nope, don’t have mod powers here. Probably a good thing overall, what with a certain mister someone who used to always bellyache that I was cheating or whatever (even though he refused to ever PLAY a game here!) and I avoided using his name specifically so we wouldn’t get into a discussion about it in a game thread!
