I think async play also adds to the Axis favor. Being able to take time and analyze a significant number of options (plus prodigious use of battle calculators) really changes the flow of the games. There have been many times where I open up the game and think I’m going one way, then sleep on it and come up with a much better plan that had initially alluded me. This obviously helps both sides, but I think the Axis are more favored here as they have the initiative and are mostly driving the board states for the initial rounds.
Also, async play isn’t really that onerous once you get used to it. It’s just a little odd at first. The worst part is itching to get your turn again :P.

Sure are. We play a tourney at all 3 Strategicon events every year starting around 9am on Saturday and usually finishing Sunday night. Opponent agreed upon boards with 1940 Europe being preliminary default and 1940 global being finals default.

Hah! You haven’t played poorly at all. Just ran into a couple rounds of bad dice. That’s the one thing that makes me shy away from dark skies. When things go to odds it’s fantastic, but a couple small dicings and the bomber count can dwindle to a manageable level.
Oh, forgot to answer the time limit question… It depends on how many people are there. If we have three rounds, yes there’s a time limit on prelim rounds (enforced very softly). Think it was 7 hours last con. It was only enforced once, most games move quickly and are resolved by then. If there are only enough people for 2 rounds, there won’t be a limit.
Good game man! Haven’t played against your strat in a while and forgot how stressful it is :P . A couple different dice rolls and this would’ve gone completely the other way.
I’m totally down for a rematch, either swapped sides or same. Just let me know when your schedule frees up.

It’s that time of year again, the drought for Southern California is officially over! Well, convention drought that is; can’t do anything about the lack of rain ;) . Strategicon starts back up in exactly one month (02/14-17) with Orccon and the dice get rollin! Come join us at the LAX Hilton for 2+ days of A&A tourney fun starting setup around 9am on 02/15.
We typically run 8 team tourneys, but would love to get more people. All rounds are played on any mutually agreed upon A&A game board (if a board can’t be agreed on, defaults are G40 Europe 2ed for preliminary rounds and G40 global 2ed in the final). Prizes are awarded for 1st and 2nd place. Once you arrive, head on up to the wargames room (there are lots of directional signs from registration) and either mill about the A&A tables or ask for Tim, Dale, or Luke (me) and we’ll get you hooked up. I just got my order of @Young-Grasshopper’s battle dice and am so itching to try them out.
FYI, ignore the fact that A&A isn’t listed on the schedule. It’s been run 3 times a year since 1984 and isn’t about to stop now (the tourney coordinator is just a massive procrastinator, but an otherwise wonderful dude ;) ).
If you can’t make it this time, there are two more opportunities this year with Gamex (05/22-25) and Gateway (09/4-7). Would love to see you there!

I think I figured out my issue. The volunteers from the center for the blind and deaf were somehow given AA gunner duty! They were supposed to be placed in management…
