G40 Rule question: Air Battle during strategic bombing raid

  • '15 '14

    Hey there,

the rules about air battles are somehow contradictory to me. My Europe and Pacfic Rulebook say different things, however the tripleA client states as follows:

If interceptors are launched: a one-round air battle takes place right away all air involved roll at 1 (jets rolls at 2). Either attacking bombers or fighters can be taken as casualties.

My question is: Do jets role at 2?

I watched the game between Gamerman and seththenewb it seems that jets roll at1?: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=31508.135

However, according the the attached screenshot the Russian dices were 2 and 6 during the air battle but not Bomber was hit as the AA made 3 shots.

So, do fighters intercepting a Strategic Bombing Raid roll at 1 or 2?

    Cheers,
    Tobias

    Intercepting fighters roll @1.
    Intercepting jet fighters roll @2.
I had a quick view at the savegame of the game you mentioned. It seems that Russia has not acquired Jet Fighters technology.
So it looks like everything is fine.  :-)

Ahh ok, “jets” names fighters after successful research, alright.
So the conclusion is: Every air unit rolls at 1 in an air battle.

I was further confused by the Pacific rulebook:

    • The attacking bombers and fighter escorts and the defending fighter interceptors will be
the only units participating in this special combat.
    • The attacking strategic bombers will not fire in the battle, but they can be taken as
casualties. Players select their own casualties based on the number of hits received
    during the air battle.
    • The combat lasts for only one round.
    • The fighters have an attack value of 1 and a defense value of 2.

I have to say I find this one more logical. It adds more value to keep fighters to intercept plus it is imo not super logical that a bomber which is specialized in bombing fights as good as a fighter which is usually specialized in air battles^^

bzt nvd, all air rolls at 1 in an air battle, confirmed!

    Cheers!

  • The fighters have an attack value of 1 and a defense value of 2.

This is the line that made me think interceptors roll at 2.  That is how I had been playing at home.

  • Looks like you guys are referring to the rulebook of the first edition. These rules are outdated.

Just download the 2nd edition rulebooks.

    There it says:

    @rulebook:

If the defender has elected to commit fighter interceptors, an air battle will be fought immediately before the bombing raid is
conducted. Only one air battle is fought in each territory, even if more than one facility in that territory is being bombed. This
air battle is resolved in the same way as a normal combat, with the following exceptions:

    • The attacking bombers and fighter escorts and the defending fighter interceptors will be the only units participating in this
      special combat.
    • The combat lasts for only one round.
    • All of the air units have attack and defense values of 1.

  • I was about to say, your rules are outdated. All airplanes shoot at 1 except Jet fighters at 2, so yes strategic bombers to participate in the dice rollin’.
