    Yep, NWP was illegal, you actually cannot fly over Turkey as attacking Turkey would just be the real DOW against the neutrals. You cannot fly over Turkey during NCM.

    Anyway, I forgot to consider the Neutral crush. Seems like a decisive move to slaughter 10 planes at Gib and to trap the UK fleet without a harbour. I guess that turns this into an easy Axis winning position. Don’t thin the Allies can cope with it.

    yah and more actually, as I will blow out 76 too…

    but I did try to give you a hint along with 14 hours to reconsider!

    Well. Shortens the misery. I think Allies were ok if I had prepared for that. But like this, one deadly blow decides the game. Good way to lose the first time after 2.5 years :-)

    I should have simply accepted to lose the med and gib.
    Move enough fighters to morocco to send them to uk to prevent sea lion, move the med fleet towards japan. Build us atlantic from there.

    I believe with egypt secured and russia with massiv air power, the allies would have been im a good position and japan some serious conpetition in the pacific.

    Too bad this botches allies move threw the game away.

    yes I agree, I think it was a close struggle and allies were in great shape, minus the oversight. I wanted the harbor bombing of egypt to cause you some trouble and hard decisions regarding your naval positioning, and I knew that if you weren’t careful, I could pull such a trap as I did here.

    Nothing the Allies can do from here. Med will be reclaimed, UK fleet butchered. Germany either move towards russia or Egypt, their choice, against 30 air Russia cant do anything but turtle.
    I think the Allies had it under control in the Pacific, with the US reinforcements India was safe for a while, ANzac accumulated mass ground units to withhold an invasion even if US would leave queensland.

    This was the decisive phase. The problem is: Germany would have had the odds to take a shot at Egypt, at least with an 1-2 attack saccing Italians. In case I move me fleet in the Pacific, there are less planes to protect Egype or London. I could at least have taken the shot, hoping a DD might win against the Italian bomber and prevent a German landing in Gib.
    I would have been unclear whether UK would be been for grab in case I move me fleet in the Pacific. But with that massive fleet, Japan would have had massive problems and US could have had exclusively invested into the Atlantic.

    But all what if, the blunder happened and it ended the game.

    In many situations it is hard to judge the game from the outside. I trust JDOW when he gives up

    In some way it is a blunder, but it also require massive calculations, so maybe it is not really a blunder. I dont think so

    I think it shows how powerfull the axis are even at +18 for alies.

    Also if you look at the economics its not hopeless for allies. End of Germany allies are up 200 TUV and a gain of 38 TUV/round. India is safe

    Also it is ALOT OF WORK for axis to take down three of moscow/egypt/volgograd/London

    I see the potential sea lion threat, but is it coming next round or round after? If it is , russia is in awesome shape

    There are allied resources here. Just look at 10 american planes in india. However the british fleet in the med is in serious trouble, but it also means the axis cant do everything at once

    I would have played for two more rounds (at least)

    The british fleet is getting butchered. Another 130ish TUV that are lost with close to zero losses for the Axis and from there the Axis are ahead in TUV and please do not forget that the choke in Italy will be released, too.

    Japan will just hold still at 70 income and maybe invade Easter Russia soon, but US cannot get active in the Pacific too. Neither could Japan, a stalemate is what I planned for while choking the Germans over time, or choke Japan with the med fleet but invest Atlantic only wih the US from there.
    But as played, it will just be an uphill battle from here and the few extra bucks from the neutrals won’t help.

    The game was tense even with the additional 200 TUV the Allies had. I still believe, if Allies manage to hold both, Egypt and London, I would have had the upper hand.
    But achieving this was tough. Germany would at least have had a shot at Egypt and MARTI could have been a game decider.

    And re blunder: Oh yes, this was a serious blunder. I did not account at all at any time during my turn that a neutral crush would alter the ranges from the planes. I just did not have a neutral crush in any of my games for the last 2 years I guess. I just forgot about this option.

  • Good game and thank you! I FINALLY got to play the great JDOW and it proved to be as challenging as can be, no mistake about it. If you had seen through the trap, I’m not sure if I could win, as you had survived the rush on egypt, Russians were still quite robust, and so was India. I was not without my own successes, as I got fairly lucky with China in all those little but significant wins, and that bombing on Moscow was oh so sweet, even though it wasn’t impacting you immediately (at some point as the Germans renewed the eastern offensive, you’d of course be forced to repair that damage).

    I will say, I was expecting you to hold in TJ, which would be more difficult for me, but I also understand that you were worried about a 1-2 punch from Italy and Germany.

    As far as the trap, I knew that bombing that harbor in egypt would cause some complications for you, as now you wouldn’t be able to send them all together to 92, and so you had to figure out how best to keep them safe while also maxing Egyptian defense. And of course I tried to maximize whatever threats I could, hence the additional threat on Gibraltar (and SL always being on the table as well).

    Anyway, fun and challenging game, and I hope you would consider playing me sometimes during the season as well!

    I did not consider to hold TJ. Just realized I could have but then I would have had to put the fleet at 76 and I was worried about sea lion.

    but apparently, I did not play carefully enough, although I know that these turns were decisive.
    I made the decision to quickly to retreat from TJ. I agree, with an extra turn, I would have been in great shape, although sea lion was a problem to me.

    Looks like I gave it away. Maybe the Allies had the upper hand prior to Rus 8. At Rus, I could have already placed my Russian air better to be in range of TJ and thus make the stand even easier.

    By “give it away” I meant that the game could still be going with chances for both players.

    I also am a little surprised by the concession at this point. Yes, it’s a major setback but it isn’t at all clear that the allies will lose any victory cities. If Egypt is attacked, MARTI could decide. It certainly seems likely that they will lose the economic advantage over the next few turns unless Japan starts to collapse and/or USSR invades Germany, both of which seem plausible to me - I’m not sure Java can be held. I thought the allies had a big lead in this game until the neutral crush move. Axis are ahead now for sure, but I don’t see that the outcome is a foregone conclusion. Maybe I’m not understanding the future here. I guess USA has to defend the capital now.

    I think it was an uphill battle for the allies that was not winnable being entirely immobilized in Europe. Against 30 German air plus the fleet, Allies will never again be in the position to threaten any landings. This situation is just not winnable. Germans will just start flooding inf and mech towards Russia and the strong-looking reds will very soon sit in Moscow because Italians have a massive can opener and the planes, that do not have to protect in the west, will just deadzone any territory.
    Germans will also easily reclaim Cauc and Volgo soon and thus be in the 75+ income range again soon. And the SBR campaign against Moscow can also continue after I repaired some damage

    Java can be held easily, Japan just needs to invest 2 blockers and sit in the Java seazone.
    Again, the British fleet gets butchered too, from there Allies will have the TUV lead.

    With the 12 extra planes and the US/UK fleet I would have had enough compensation to protect both Egypt and Moscow and to go after Japan who would have been in trouble if the entire UK fleet would have joined the party.
    But the problem was London and that’s why I stuck to the idea to keep the UK fleet in Europe to protect London (by threatening to annihilate the fleet against a sea lion) and to potentially reestablish a position in the Atlantic against Germany.
    And even that US single carrier and cruiser would have been a huge support against Japan, thus I was not too unhappy to split the fleet. The US transports could have partly loaded UK units from SA and partly been sent on a long route home or to Pacific via Kap Horn.
    But I forgot to put the neutral crush into the equation. A rookie mistake ended the game, what an irony :(
    And to be clear again: Even without my mistake the position was tense with chances for both sides.
