    Alright thanks for the explanation and that’s sort of what I had figured. Japan’s first turn is definitely interesting as there are just so many options. You definitely are in a strong position and have a lot of units in position to strike India, Australia, and China in J2. The value of the move to take New Guinea is probably debatable but your explanation makes sense. You could probably argue that moving the transport somewhere else provides more opportunity for J2 as its one more transport you’d have to attack something and just not getting the NO on J1. There is definitely additional value of currently having units vs having PUs to buy them later.


  • I agree on this consideration. On the other hand the additional cash can be really helpful regarding the intended build on J2.

    Interesting choice to move Italy’s entire navy to the coast of Morocco and take Morocco back. Got Italy lots of PUs by grabbing the NO but at the cost of its navy. It did put up a heck of a defense against the US airforce by rolling 3 out of 3 hits but it just wasn’t enough. Got some tough decisions to make during G3.


  • Yes, I cannot remember a single game where the Italian navy does not get toasted at any time - without nocticeable compensation. So the idea was - apart from taking the NO - to weaken the attacking allies a bit to prepare something in G3.

    Yeah unless either Germany or Italy invests heavily in air/naval, the Italians just don’t have enough to keep the US/UK out of the Med for long. Probably the only other options are if Japan guns for the Med to sync up with the Italian navy or if the Italians retreat out of the Med towards India to fight another day. In your case, the Japanese are too far away at this point so retreating was probably the only option to save them but then they would become pretty much useless outside of the Med. Tough decision, not sure how I would have played it.
