Following up on what you said in the other post, yeah I agree that the victory cities one map is a little janky.
The times I lost as the allies were in the exact same way you did. Japan sneaked around and got the final victory city while I was pounding on Germany.
If I were in power, I would do world conquest as the victory condition – no winner until everyone is dead or surrenders. However, to do that you’d have to beef up the Axis powers – more NOs and units. Why is there not an NO for Axis link up? That would have been a massive propaganda coup. And why there is no NO for london is frankly silly. Like capturing London would be meaningless to the Axis… please. Germany should have an NO for merely controlling Romania.
However, in the same vein, you’d have to beef up the USSR. The USSR set up is kind of stupid. I know the purges downgraded its military effectiveness, but they still had like some 25,000 tanks in 1941. Sure, many of marginal value and combat readiness, but to give them just 2? And where are the interior divisions? The Soviet Union’s vast interior was completely ungarrisoned? Blah…

One last rant, then back to war.
I think what would really make this game truly excellent would be to add in fixed events like Xeno did in World at War (which was the best A&A knock off of all time). Like if Germany takes France then you roll for all remaining french units for control by allies or Germany. Etc. Design them to give the Axis an umph and you don’t have to worry about Allied material supremacy.

I think we could do better, yes. Appreciate the thoughts, as always. Japan being able to build massive numbers of infantry and <gasp>tanks (which are as effective as Germany or USA or Russia tanks) has always bugged me with A&A.
Well, I had a Russian bomber but we all know what happened to it! :lol:</gasp>

You say boost Axis, but what do you think about my idea to neuter allies, specifically Australia and to a lesser extent India? What offensive did India ever go on, in WWII? Or Australia? But they’re major players in this game…
Oh well, we have to go with this game because it’s what everybody has. There is peril to going off on house rules - as soon as you want to play other people… and you get used to a different game so you are disadvantaged when you switch back, etc etc -

Also, friendly reminder that fighters in 110 cannot hit subsMay you lose in 106 and may your tac get shot down over Paris!

hmm, I wouldn’t mind dumbing down Anzac’s Nos. �I don’t know. �I think larry did a good job “balancing the game” – its pretty close with the current set up, maybe an Axis edge. �But who cares about balance. �I’ll play chess if I want balance. �A&A should be the Axis are militarily strong but economically weak with the allies the opposite, such that time is the enemy of the Axis. �In this game the Axis can expand, sit on its butt and actually achieve economic parity with the allies… blah!

While we’re waiting, I’d like to tell you I was mystified and not happy when he nerfed heavy bombers with AA50 in midstream. Best of 2 dice just sucks. It’s almost as bad as advanced artillery or mech infantry now.
But thank goodness he finally saw the light and made long range aircraft +1! I used to house rule it to that in AA50. Unfortunately it’s still a ridiculous +2 in AA50, but I don’t usually play tech anymore anyway in AA50. Sigh
