    hmm… yeah looking at the odds, you should win sz31, but if the dice go ill, could be very bad, particularly if you choose bombers over ftrs first round and I chose to lose cvs.

    The dice will tell us.

    ha, now I see why I did not attack the Anzac stuff… interesting.  Its a bad sign usually when moves are based on the complicated/anticipated moves of your opponent, thus I try not to let what they may do affect what I do, too much at least.  We must just overwhelm the defenders of Hawaii!

    This is my “problem”.  That’s how I play.  It takes forever to play that way in G40.  Not that I try to figure out everything you might do, but mainly plan for what I think is your best move, or what I fear you’ll do (I play chess the same way).

    But even before this game, I thought G40 might just have so many possibilities that you can’t really play that way anymore.  But it’s probably easier for the Allies to do that than the Axis.

    I should probably revise that statement to the extent I think, like in chess, you want to be moving in such a way as to keep the initiative and cause your opponent to react and not vice versa.  Once you start reacting you are on the defensive and subject to manipulation.  But that being said, sometimes you just got to react in defense no matter what.

    Many times defensive play quickly turns into offensive play, when the offense you are defending runs out of reinforcements!  Or allows some opening  :-)

    That’s encouraging to hear.  Sorry to say I haven’t even looked at it seriously yet since you finished Japan - just that quick once over.  I do want to play - owe some other guys a move or two but am hoping to move tomorrow.

    Will have to look at different possibilities - 1) completely blocking you now with destroyers (without a lot of study I’m thinking this is not in my best interests)

    Try to prevent takeover of Hawaii on the next Japan turn, allowing an attack, and of course also setting up an attack to take it back again or

    Let you take it over and set up to take it back (but then you will be set up to take it back again….)

    Without a lot of study I’m thinking it’s gonna be option 2

    I will also have to decide whether to try and reinforce Hawaii with men, planes, both, or whether to concentrate on fleet - trying to prevent you from holding Z26.  Without a lot of study, I’m thinking with my very small fleet it’s going to be more effective to concentrate on airplanes that can also hop to Australia, rather than buying a bunch of boats that will probably just be overpowered by you in future turns anyway…

    But we’ll both find out after I study for an hour or so!  And maybe USA will get another tech  :-)

    no doubt you got a firm understanding of the possibilities….  aye… if its any consolation, I am anxious as you to see what you do…  I wont lie that sz31 is a temptation…  if it goes well, good for you.  If it goes bad… disaster for you…


  • I agreed to be a substitute partner to Jim010 in another global game (playing Japan) and finally got the J3 figured out and done, so will be turning my attention back to this….  but I’m leaving for work for the day now

    No prob.  This is a big move.  I looked at it again last night.  I see that norther italy may become an allied bastion, especially if the US/UK moves in.  Those 4 ftrs in Greece would do it for sure.

    I’m feeling doomed…  I don’t think I like these victory conditions and it’s not just because of this game…  But it really feels wrong to lose over losing India and then Hawaii for one round…
    Come on, Larry, if the Allies were to win in Europe and Japan took Australia, Hawaii, and India, do you really think the Allies would just stop and call it good and let the Empire of Japan be?  :-P
    I don’t think I’d like it if I was playing the Axis either…  oh well, I knew it was part of the game when I agreed to play - don’t mind me
