    Theoretically, one round should have ended the fight with Germans wiping out the RAF and losing only 4 planes. The German air force got only half (3/6) of the their expected hits, and the RAF, with 4 hits, was just over expected (3.83). Then the Germans were Martinized again with about only half of the expected hits (2 instead of 3.67) and the RAF got 2 more hits as expected. For the third and final round, the Germans outperformed expectations by getting 4/4 hits on only 1 target. And, of course, the lone RAF fighter hit. Skelly’s indicated a better outcome for the Germans 95.1% of time.

    Sadly, the German air force need not have been exposed to any risk IF the Italians had done their job in Round 2. I ran the Battle Calculator on the Italian invasion of Egypt at least 6 times with the Italians winning between 60% and 70% of the time. Skelly’s listed the average win at 63.8% and the UK at 33.7%. All in all Italy should have won about 2 in 3 times. With a factory in Egypt and at least 4 infantry that could easily be transported to Egypt, I did not see the odds for an Italian victory improving.

    The Italians did not fight poorly, with 1 bombardment hit (e = 1.67) and 7 other hits (e =6.17). But it seemed that every RAF plane hit boosting the hits to 10 (e = 7.33). At that point, the probability of Italy winning had dropped to about 25%.

    So, yes, without a strong German air force, the prospects for the Axis are extremely bleak.

    I have another busy work week, and the Japan 3 turn is going to take some time to plan. So I may not get to it until the weekend. Perhaps I can use the time to restore a small measure of morale among the Axis troops. :)
