13L G40 Gargantua v. Gamerman01, sides and tech TBD
-
Gamerman01 has accepted a challenge from Gargantua, who is tired of rolling over newbies
We have agreed to determine if this is a tech roll, by a die roll.
We are still bidding, with Gargantua currently bidding +5 for AlliesEven #, playing with tech
Odd #, no tech
Rolling 1:
(1) -
There will be no heavy bombers, super subs, rockets, paratroopers……
Just old school, hard core, grind it out A&A!I’ll bid 3, for 1 extra Frenchie to Paris
-
Damn! I wanted to bid 3!
I’ll bid 2. +2 for London.
-
Somebody else knows the Allies rock!
Allies+0, I’ll play you straight up -
Axis+1.
-
I should clarify.
Bidding as the allies, allowing the axis +1.
Don’t know if we call that allies -1?
-
Somebody else knows the Allies rock!
Allies+0, I’ll play you straight upAnd yes, I agree. Alot of people hand out massive bids to play the axis. Really don’t see why!
Clearly the allies are your game, so… there’s no sense in just letting you have them. :)

Refreshing to see that someone does their homework, or at least pays attention to the data I have compiled for every player!
Yes the Allies are in my wheelhouse
Let’s cut the crap and I’ll give you Axis +5
-
I would need something like Axis +10 to take that offer seriously.
Like yourself, I play a much better Allies game.
As I am sure you know… the allies are much more insulated against epic dicing. And the “Onus of Proof” is on the axis to prove their case.
I much prefer that my opponent lays out his offensive, and allows me to pick it apart, pulling out all the teeth - disabling it’s fundamentals with cheap tricks, multinational forces and threat projection, allowing me to maintain economic control eventually forcing the enemy to give up; as opposed to actually having to mastermind a cohesive offensive scheduled and predicted turns in advance. It’s just plain easier. :) Don’t you agree?
So…
Clearly there is only one solution going forward here Gamerman. That we play two games, one on each side, and truly test each others resolve. :)
In that situation, I’d recommend we both take the board at 0.
Or we can see how far this bidding will go? Give you axis +7.
-
Also… at this point I’m becoming concerned at taking one of these high axis bids.
Could you imagine the community flak we’d get if either one of us LOST a game as Axis +5 or 10?
-
Agh - you put out such reasonable proposals, you are making me have to THINK
First of all, I have to think about what the Axis can do with a bid of 7. It just might be tantalizing enough for me to take them.
And who cares what everybody else thinks if we have a big negative bid and the Axis still loses? We both say we’re a lot more comfortable with the Allies, so it makes sense.I need to go to sleep, so will look at the starting setup tomorrow and see what nasty placements I can come up with for 7. Or I’ll bid you lower, we’ll see.
I hesitate to agree to 2 games with someone I’ve never played - I’m sure you understand…. :-) This game takes so many hours to play… Or as I always say… to play it WELL :-)

Nevertheless, THANK YOU for the proposal
-
7 is a transport. :)
Like a J1 DOW? :D Or maybe you could take a shot at UK!
I was also thinking about Axis bids last night. not that I think we’d take this to 15, but an Airbase in Northern Italy would make G1 interesting.
or two more subs and an inf in Kwangsi.
-
Even if we make it up to bid 12, putting a minor in Romania? Germany could probably build an interesting navy there G1 or G2, and be landing in the Caucasus during Barbarossa!
Hmm 7… 1 inf 1 art Holland?
or 1 sub for the Atlantic and +1 for Italy?
+1 transport for Italy on the west side of rome?choices… choices… :P
Also… although I know that we aren’t playing a tech game. I wouldn’t be opposed to considering a tech award as part of a bid proposal. (TripleA can edit them in), Much like “Axis Advantage” from the original Milton Bradley game.
Have to say Gamerman… we haven’t even set up the pieces and this has already started to become one of the most interesting mental games I’ve played in awhile. :)

I wish more people knew that one doesn’t need that silly bid up front in a game.
I mean, what is 12 IPC compared to all the rest of it?
One minor battle’s odd dice can even that out, not to speak of larger battles.GAME ON!
-
If I ever lose a game as Axis with a bid of as little as 2-3, then I will officially wear a fool’s hat for a week.
-
Ah, but you are an Axis specialist, arathorn
What you are seeing is 2 guys who aren’t comfortable with the Axis, but love to snipe at the Axis from every direction with the Allies… -
or 1 sub for the Atlantic and +1 for Italy?
+1 transport for Italy on the west side of rome?choices… choices… :P
These are 2 of my top choices, and I have several other ideas….
Quite the prologue… -
Alright, I’ll take the doomed Axis with a sub to 97 and 1 IPC to Japan
-
Agreed.
