These rules are part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 2E, House Rules Expansion.

In the game, during the fierce fighting in The Pacific, the Imperial Japanese Army will most likely have to face the elite of the US Army - the US Marines.

US Marines have a decisive attack ability when supported by artillery.

In the same way, British Commandos are hard hitting combat units, especially when used in raids against Fortress Europe.

Ok. Can your marines go further into land territories or have to stay in coastal land territories. This is based on marines would land then regular inf would relieve them to advance further in. Just wondering if it was thought of. Some designers I know say only coastal. But then some went deep in Europe side ?

    Hi Manstein,

There are no restrictions to where the US Marines can fight. It is up to the US player to decide where these units are most needed.

Designing this rule, we had two major considerations:

    1. With the game player in mind: the rule must be balanced and easy to use.
    2. With the History enthusiast in mind: it seemed most realistic to let the “Generals” navigate to the conditions of the fighting, as during real combat.

It would make sense to let regular infantry take over any position, once the US Marines have conquered a territory.

Since the US player can have a maximum of 12 US Marine units on the game board at any given time, this might be worth considering.

    Thanks for your comment:+1:

  • Interesting concepts floated here! I always appreciate the effort to create and publish various house rules on the forums. I do have a question; can the British Commandos take/hold territory? Or are they more of a shock force that is replaced by a regular Infantry unit after combat?

  • @crsluggo Hi crsluggo,

When British Commandos are supported by artillery in an attack, they attack at “3” - and the artillery at “2” as usual.

After the attack, any surviving Commandos operate under regular infantry rules - but they are still Commandos.

So, during any future attack they (again) attack at “3” - when supported by artillery. Otherwise they attack at “1” as regular infantry - even though they are Commandos.

In other words; the artillery unit is the key.

The same rule applies to US Marines.

Please note: German Waffen-SS infantry units have similar qualities when supported by Waffen-SS Artillery.
