  • this is a bit more like it…… 3.78 for the uk and 3.84 for ita and 2.0 for Germany. I can’t believe the G ss hit both times and I see why this battle needs to be done with the in house dice…both times I lost an attacking boat before I could roll and with a dd present!

    anyways…if you can’t stomach tossing out that crazy stupid UK1 rolls and using this version instead then let me know and I will call the game in your favor. I can’t see continuing after that silliness. G40 is such that the Uk often times fights Ger & Ita by itself for 3+ turns and I just can’t see any hope after all those 5’s & 6’s…, the elimination of the UK +15 bid and the loss of all that material whilst ITA kept nearly everything. :-D

    given that i am actually going to make an effort to put together the best league record i can this year, and given that other opponents that i have started out this poorly against decline a similar offer and make me keep my insanely bad early dice (see my G1 and G2 against allweneedislove in our game 1)

    you will understand why i cannot similarly give up the good luck that i get once in a blue moon.  remember i did have a pretty bad G1 to start this one.  hence, i have decided that my default will always be to go with the dice as rolled.  other things like forgetting to make an obvious move, etc i am more lenient with, but the dice have got to be the dice.

    i would tend to agree that those dice probably cripple your game here.  however, you may be interested to look at a game i currently am playing against Trajan where i LOST france on G1 badly (he had 4 units left and wiped everything i took in out except for the tac) and i BARELY took france on Italy 1.  However, i would say that I have recovered and should win the game.

    i was playing around with the idea of a LL reroll to be used in one battle per game.

    if both sides used it, then another would be given to both sides.  however, i have
    been burned in all the games i suggested this, most notably the XDAP final against
    AWN and Hank - so i have determined not to use it going forward.  i’m now in
    agreement with gamerman (the purist) that the dice are the dice.

    now, had your attacks been much more conservative, like 95-100%  attacks, i may have thought about it a little more.  i think that’s when a win is truly undeserved, when a super conservative battle is lost.  your battles here were fairly aggressive right?  i mean, your two big attacks were 68 and 70 percent i believe. that’s very aggressive, danger zone type stuff.  so you really need to suffer when those battles go badly because if they had both gone well, it would have really hurt me - does this make sense?  z96 really sucked because it was 94% for you but again, how often have we veterans seen 90-95% battles go bad - all the time right?

    now, like me against AWN, you have a truly extreme result here because even though the results in each of those three mediterranean battles could have easily gone badly, the likelihood of them ALL going badly is pretty miniscule - probably easily a less than 0.5% chance of them going so poorly in a combined fashion.  but again, AWN refused to accept such a request in a very similar circumstance in my G1, and i think it is valid.  now, had i done fewer and much more conservative attacks against him and failed, i would think at that point he would consider a reroll (for example, if i sent EVERYTHING to france and lost when i was expected to come out with like 20+ units, i mean, i don’t know what he’d say then.  probably still that the dice need to be the dice really because you never know if your opponent later will give you the same - it’s like in poker when you bad beat a guy and he says, cmon man, can i have some of that back?  you really want to give it to him, but then you remember all the bad beats you have taken and that those guys didn’t send any back your way.
