Need some help for the TripleA game options screen

  • TripleA '12

Hey guys, is there any way I can find a description of what each button does in the game options screen does on TripleA? I am using TripleA version 1.6.1.4 and playing Global 1940 2nd Ed. There are all the check boxes for options that I would prefer turned on or off, but the trouble is I’m always 100% sure what these do exactly. Is there an explanation guide anywhere that I might have missed? For example, what does ‘Triggered Victory’ mean? And what is the difference between ‘Kamikaze Airplanes’ and ‘Use Kamikaze Suicide Attacks’? What does ‘Scramble From Island Only’ mean and how does it differ from ‘Scramble To Sea Only’?

I want to get a game started but I’d like to be sure what I’m setting here. Thank you all very much in advance.

  • I cannot explain everything in detail. All I know is that if you use the default settings the game will be as close to the rules as possible.
With one exception: LHTR Heavy bombers is “Roll two dice, choose the best and add 1” on strategic bombing raids where the rules say “Roll two dice and choose the best”. So in Global 1940.2 (and others) you have to use edit mode to correct the Heavy Bomber result on strategic bombing if you want to play strictly rules compliant.
If you deactivate LHTR Heavy bombers the two dice will be added, which was the OOB concept for HeavyBombers in AA50 (and was superseded by the FAQ of course).
For other options you maybe will find this link useful:

Lozmoid, keep in mind that the default in Game Options represents the official rules.

The only settings I ever mess with in Game Options are

    1. Decide on low luck or dice (default is dice)
    2. Decide on tech or no tech (default is tech)
    3. Put in the bid.

Everything else you should probably just leave alone.  For example, I don’t know what checking “Kamikaze Airplanes” would do exactly, but most likely it would change the way the rules are executed.

“Triggered victory” just means you’ll see a message saying one side or another has won if the VC conditions are met.  From what I remember it doesn’t actually stop the game–you can play on.  No big deal whether this is checked or unchecked.

    P@nther,
Actually the LHTR Heavy Bombers option only gives +1 to total SBR damage on maps where the xml is configured in a certain way.
In Global 1940, it does NOT give any bonus.

Therefore, it is fully rules compliant.

Let me give a quick run down of the options:

    Bids

Triggered Victory = victory for axis if they own 8 vc in europe half, or 6 vc in pacific half. victory for allies if they own w/e the rules say they need to own (i forget).

Honorable Surrender = if triggered victory is off, and honorable is on, then instead both powers will use ‘total vc’ for the whole map as a victory condition.  the total needed are in the boxes below this.

Low Luck = LL for all combat, including AA guns

LL for AA only = LL only for aa guns

    LL for Tech

LL for bombing and territory damage

    Tech Dev = on/off

Remove Tech Tokens at end of turn = if turned off, you keep your tech tokens until you get a tech

Super sub bonus = super subs technology, do we want to give a bonus to defense also?

LHTR HB = if on, we pick best die.  if off, we use all dice.

Kamikaze Airplanes = air can use all their movement to get to a battle.  no need to consider a landing space.

Use Kamikaze Suicide Attacks = those 6 japanese kamikaze attacks in Global 1940

Two hitpoint units require repair facilities = do we need to be by a harbor to repair?

Scramble rules in effect = scramble on/off

Scramble units return to base = if off, they can move somewhere else after scramble.

Scramble to sea zone only = if off, they can scramble to adjacent land attacks too (i think)

Scramble from islands only = original rules say you can only scramble from islands.  now you can scramble from coasts too.

Scramble to any amphibious assault = originally rules say you can only scramble to defend against an amphib assault on the scrambling territory.  new rules say you can scramble to defend against any amphib assault.

Units can be changed on capture = factory major becomes minor after being captured

choose AA casualties = if on we pick our casualties for AA.  if off, they are picked randomly.

units may give bonus movement = airbases and naval bases give +1 movement

convoy blockades roll dice for cost = if on we roll dice.  if off, we do 1 damage for each die we would have rolled [perfect average]

unit placement restrictions = can’t place certain units in certain places (ex: no factories on islands)

raids may be preceeded by air battles = allow intercepting and escorting for SBR

Ah, good to know, thanks for the update!
    How is it in AA50-ww2v3?

I tested it myself and found out that it is wrong in ww2v3 (AA50) regarding SBR.
There “1” is added to the best die.
It should be “take the best die” only.
