Napoleonic Empires: Free For All

  • Ho, ho, ho, nobody wants a war against Russia. A luck that I’m in the other corner of the map

  • @Veqryn:

    @Gargantua:

Prussia also declared open borders with Russia. :)

    woops, forgot about that.

Here is the new save, starts with Prussia’s politics phase…

France - (Cow) - Propose Spain Open Borders (Spain accepts)

UK - (Veqryn) - No actions.

Spain - (Funcioneta) - No actions.

Prussia - (Gargantua) - To War with Sweden. Also Propose Open-Borders with Russia Russia accepts

Sweden - (Seth The Newb) - Propose Ceasefire with Russia (Russia rejects)

Austria - (Canuck) - Propose Open-Borders with Russia (Russia accepts/rejects??)

Ottoman Empire - (Noll) - No actions

Russia - (Ol’ Blood & Guts) - _Propose Open Borders with England_

The Emperor has decided to accept Open Borders with Prussia, however do NOT think you take one step towards Moscow!!!

The Emperor also rejects Sweden’s proposal!

After much research through the archives, our strategists have recommended that I propose Open Borders with England and the great King Veqryn

  • The Emperor has decided to respectfully decline the Austrian’s proposal. He is a little paranoid.

  • @Funcioneta:

Ho, ho, ho, nobody wants a war against Russia. A luck that I’m in the other corner of the map

HA!!! The Spaniards are welcome to come see us and experience our scorched earth tactics

  • Nah… we’re ruled by the true and real ‘Prince of Peace’, do you remember :-D ?

  • And now the real fun begins  8-)

  • I don’t care about your political propaganda Gargantua.

From a gameplay perspective, Verqyn said in the regular game the Ottomans gets attacked by Russia-Austria-Prussia while France and Sweden attack them. That’s -FAIR-.

I didn’t complain that you and canuck decided to attack me, while your attack on me is questionable, the Austrian one looks like the best route to more income/victory.

What I am complaining is that while in the regular game this type of gank is somewhat balanced by the fact that the centrla powers have to resist pressure from France Sweden Spain combined, in this game this is not happening, and I don’t get how I’m supposed to resist a 3 power attack with my limited income/resources.

This is NOT going to be a fun game to me with these terms, so my -best way- to scare this action off is to concede my territories to another, more worthy power, to ensure you do not win.

You’re also seeking England protection from Sweden, in my language you are a “paraculo”, that’s unstranslable.

Oh and I’m not kidding, since Verqyn doesn’t like me conceding territories, I offer them to France.

Lets remember that we are all playing a game here.  Noone is out to get anyone, and none of this is personal.  I quite expect to see some of these newly made peace/ceasefire/open-border/alliance treatise to get broken and/or back-stabbed.  I also fully expect that some of these war paths will turn perhaps unexpectedly into peace.

Secondly, we are only on the 2nd round.  Do not project too many rounds down the road.  A LOT can happen in just a few rounds, especially politically.

Third, you only have 2 people attacking you, Austria and Prussia, while the only other power (russia) has a ceasefire with you.  In a few turns, Prussia probably won’t have any way to reach you, and they will be too busy with Sweden.  Therefore, you are only “really” at war with Austria.

Forth, you are in the corner.  Playing a nation in the corner is comparatively easy compared with playing centrally located powers like Austria and Prussia.  I feel sorry for whoever plays austria and prussia in ever game of this, and also in every game of “Diplomacy”.  Very soon, Austria and Prussia will need to be engaging in hectic diplomacy with literally every nation on the board, every single turn, just to stay alive.  The corner powers, meanwhile, can sit back, relax, and maybe talk to one of their few neighbors, if they want to.

Fifth, this is a free for all game.  Players will notice quickly who is gaining ground and who is losing it.  You will find that people who are gaining ground have more trouble making friends, and more often back-stabbed.  If Player X is only 1 victory city away from claiming victory, you can bet people will start ganging up on him a bit to slow him down.

Sixth, even if you do lose, don’t be a bad sport about it.  Giving away your territories, or suiciding yourself, is kind of being a bad sport.  You are a king of an empire.  You kneel to noone, not even in defeat!

Everything said by V is seconded by myself. With the addition of: Take it like a man. Or, failing that, remember that it’s just a game.

  • So taking it like a man means I should just get owned without looking for allies? I see!

    GG

  • Liaison TripleA '11 '10

    Noll,

    Stop complaining.

Look at Austria,  he has the most powerful ground nation of the game attacking him in a frontal assault,  He’s at war with you, and committed to operations there.  Then he just was denied an open border agreement with Russia (So you know what that means), and he has basically no where to expand - save Italy, which the French will likely prevent from happening.  His only psuedo ally is me,  and I’m not a particularily “fond of him”.  Worse, I have no itention of helping him against the French, because I’ve got a seperate arrangement with Cow.

Cut Off, Surrounded, and slowly being squeezed, is what makes the game exciting for him.

Try to muster some of the same courage…  or atleast learn how to wrangle politically to get your way.

lest you be called… a pussy.

    GG

Look for allies man, be my guest. I wish I could help you out in that department but like G says I’ve got to eat up as much territory as I can before the French get here. You make freinds WHERE you can, WHEN you can, and not fighting Prussia frees up my forces to fight elsewhere for now.

Look, it’s a dog-eat-dog world out there. In life as well as in fake, online boardgames with strangers that have no consequences. Get used to it. You play the hand you’re dealt. And, believe me, this is not the shittiest thing that will happen to you this month or even this week: it’s a boardgame.

We’ve all rolled snake eyes in Egypt G1 before or conceded Moscow on turn 4. It happens. But sometimes we get a bounce or things start going your way.

And remember ABOVE ALL IT’S TURN 1!

Play it out or quit. I really dont care.

  • TripleA

Noll, come on man… YOU CAN ALWAYS DICE SOMEONE. :D SHOOKA SHOOKA.

No, but for real ottomon is who usually wins this thing… France is surrounded = worse country to play… On a dime every nation can war with me and they would have an avenue (except for russia, you can get me with boats to italy).

Then again if someone is gunning for you, you need to lose your capital city, lots of things can happen from now and then.
