Global 1940 & 1943 Expansions Game Reports

  • 2024 '23 '22 '21 '20 '19 '18

@The-Captain @Cornelis-Post as you guys were following along earlier, I have finished the Game 3 barnee vs Trout report.

I bolded and dated when I updated, so hopefully that makes it easier to follow along :)

  • @barnee Thanks for posting our game Barnee. Yes, Barnee played the better game but I am improving in our battle matches. With regards to attacking W. Germany, I believe I could have successfully attacked and won as Barnee describes, but my opinion at the time was that it was not a sustainable offense. I think I would have been pushed out with the inevitable counterattack. The Pacific naval battle did seem to me to be a good decision but alas sometimes bad dice win out. I don’t know if winning that battle would have changed the eventual outcome but it would have resulted in me not waving the white flag at that time. All in all a fun game. Looking forward to the next one.

  • Part II - Different styles

    Round 7 - 14

    Round 7 Report
Germany continued heavy mobilization, launching an attack on Holland Belgium supported by Me 262 jets and infantry, claiming victory and eliminating British paratroopers. They launched a major offensive into Russia, capturing the capital after intense fighting that resulted in the destruction of Russian high-value assets including commissars, armor, and aircraft.

Russia mounted a defensive stand, repositioning forces in Bryansk, Caucasus, and Western Ukraine. However, they suffered catastrophic losses, including their capital, crippling their production and strategic capabilities.

Japan launched coordinated attacks in the Pacific, capturing Wake Island and clearing U.S. forces from Sea Zones 26 and 7. However, a failed land attack in Sumatra cost them heavily in infantry and elite units.

United States launched a transatlantic and Pacific redeployment, reinforcing Gibraltar and Hawaii while repositioning fleets and tactical bombers to Midway and Syria. Wake Island was lost, but a major Pacific buildup signaled preparation for counterattack.

China made no significant combat moves and remained economically starved.

Britain retook Ethiopia and fought naval battles in the Mediterranean. Strategic bombing of Normandy Bordeaux failed. Ground operations restored control in parts of Africa and Burma through tactical repositioning and airborne operations.

Italy expanded influence across the Middle East and Balkans. They seized Syria and Trans-Jordan using paratroopers and combined arms, consolidating gains with a Mediterranean fleet shift.

ANZAC performed minor logistics and collected income, impacted by convoy blockades.

France continued minimal resistance, focused on holding African territories.

Round Summary: Round 7 marked a turning point as Germany broke Russian defenses and occupied the Soviet capital. Japan gained naval superiority in key Pacific zones but suffered a costly land defeat. The U.S. and Britain strengthened their positions, while Italy pressed further into Allied territory.

    Round 8 Report
Germany entrenched its hold in Russia and expanded its defense network with underground bunkers and Atlantic Walls across Europe. Limited offensive movements reflected consolidation strategy.

Russia, having lost its capital, showed minimal combat presence, focusing on survival with remnant forces and limited production from peripheral regions.

Japan reinforced northern Asia and shifted fighters across the Pacific. No major new gains occurred, as the empire braced for Allied retaliation.

The United States reorganized its fleets at Midway and Syria, landing troops on the island and deploying air forces into striking range of Japanese territory. They constructed harbors and airfields to prepare for sustained conflict.

China remained inactive militarily due to lack of resources.

Britain launched a paratrooper assault to reclaim Holland Belgium, successfully expelling German defenders. They liberated Malaya and expanded in India and Africa, coordinating with Soviet territory in Russia.

Italy faced continued Allied pressure. Although aggressive early in the game, Italy showed reduced offensive operations during this round.

ANZAC continued troop movements and logistics, with little to no combat activity.

France held minimal territory and no significant combat occurred.

Round Summary: Allied forces gained ground in Western Europe and Southeast Asia, with Britain reclaiming Holland Belgium and Malaya. The U.S. Pacific buildup threatened Japan, while Germany focused on defense after capturing Moscow.

    Round 9 Report
Germany maintained fortified positions across Europe and Russia, with minimal offensive engagements. They reinforced key positions like Normandy Bordeaux and Western Germany with elite troops and advanced tech units.

Russia, operating from limited production zones, had no major attacks, surviving with scattered forces.

Japan attacked U.S. assets in Midway and the 25 Sea Zone but did not initiate new land campaigns. The empire faced increasing pressure as Allied air power massed nearby.

United States launched a full-scale naval and air operation, reinforcing Midway and Persian/Iraqi territories. A massive carrier fleet and bomber groups were positioned to project power across the Pacific.

China again saw no combat, though they attempted to maintain minimal defensive production.

Britain advanced across multiple theaters, striking successfully in Holland Belgium and Burma while shifting paratroopers and armor east toward Russian and Central Asian fronts.

Italy attempted to hold gains in the Middle East but was overextended. British and U.S. activity began to threaten their positions in Trans-Jordan and Syria.

ANZAC continued logistics in the Pacific, taking minor economic hits from convoy disruptions but holding steady.

France remained static with no major actions.

Round Summary: Round 9 saw continued Allied momentum. Britain and the U.S. gained key territories while Germany entrenched itself. Japan’s empire, though still vast, began facing a clear Pacific threat. Russia remained crippled.

    Round 10 Report
Germany purchased and deployed a mix of elite armor and infantry across Eastern and Central Europe. Their forces remained largely static, digging in and investing in long-term infrastructure and rocket forces.

Russia was now completely under German control except for fringe units. No significant resistance remained.

Japan fortified northern Asia and shifted remaining elite units inland, preparing for an anticipated U.S. assault from the Pacific. Their territorial peak had passed, and they began focusing on defense.

The United States completed their Pacific fleet mobilization, placing more elite bombers and escort ships, and redeployed bombers and armor through the Middle East into Central Asia. Their global presence now threatened Axis power bases.

China had no forces of significance and collected no income.

Britain took Malaya and pushed into Trans-Jordan and Central Asia, coordinating with U.S. forces. They successfully liberated more territory from Japan and threatened Axis supply lines.

Italy showed little offensive initiative, reinforcing Syria and attempting to hold their shrinking Middle Eastern sphere.

ANZAC reinforced their transport fleet and positioned for future logistics support roles.

France retained small outposts, continuing symbolic resistance.

Round Summary: By Round 10, the strategic initiative had shifted clearly to the Allies. The Axis retained territorial advantages, but U.S. and British power projection had reached the heart of Axis holdings. Japan was on the defensive, and Italy’s overstretch exposed them to Allied encirclement.

Economic and Military Summary After Round 10
Nation IPC Value Lost (Est.) Unit Value Remaining (Est.)
    Germany 170+ 400+
    Russia 300+ ~40
    Japan 150+ 350+
    United States 90+ 450+
    China 90+ ~10
    Britain 120+ 300+
    Italy 100+ 100–120
    ANZAC 30+ ~50
    France 90+ <30

Note: IPC losses and unit values are based on battle outcomes, territory shifts, and production stats observed in the document. Figures are approximate but reflect relative power positions.

    Round 11 Report
Germany deployed advanced heavy tanks, underground factories, and rocket units, continuing massive investments in Total War tech. Offensives in Belarus, Archangel, and Volgograd dismantled remaining Soviet defenses. Germany also reclaimed Greece from British forces, pressing deeper into the Balkans.

Russia suffered multiple territory losses, including key strongholds in the north and east. With limited units remaining and no capital, Soviet resistance faded into isolated pockets.

Japan maintained dominance in mainland Asia, reinforcing Burma and Yunnan. Though holding strategic ground, they showed no major new offensives, likely bracing for expected U.S. and British pressure.

United States reinforced Gibraltar, Queensland, and Midway, sending carrier and bomber fleets into forward positions. Strategic mobility and deployment in both the Atlantic and Pacific reached full maturity.

China managed to reclaim Shensi from Japanese control through a small-scale counteroffensive, regaining a foothold but remaining fragile.

Britain launched attacks across multiple fronts: Greece, Burma, Iraq, and Trans-Jordan. Their forces advanced but faced sustained Axis resistance. Naval battles continued to diminish German U-boat presence.

Italy attempted to hold the Middle East, but with Trans-Jordan and Iraq falling, Axis control in the region began to crumble.

ANZAC launched an unsuccessful attack on Java but retained control over Dutch New Guinea and other Pacific holdings.

France maintained symbolic occupation of African territories, conducting minimal actions.

Round Summary: Round 11 marked the collapse of the Soviet defense network under German offensives, while Britain aggressively contested Axis control in the Middle East and Europe. The U.S. continued its buildup, and Japan held but faced gathering storms.

    Round 12 Report
Germany entrenched itself in Eastern Europe and deployed massive armored forces and Total War units across the continent. Fortifications and rocket platforms were placed in strategic zones, signaling a shift to defensive posture.

Russia remained fragmented, with a few scattered units and minimal production capacity. No major actions were taken.

Japan reinforced Burma and Yunnan, winning key defensive battles but failed to conduct significant new attacks. Defensive consolidations dominated their turn.

United States expanded their Pacific dominance, transferring ground and naval forces through Midway and Queensland. Gibraltar was reinforced, and new elite units were deployed in the Middle East.

China attempted a second counterattack into Yunnan but was repelled, suffering heavy losses. Their ability to sustain offensive operations diminished.

Britain retook Iraq and Burma through ground and air coordination and eliminated German U-boats from the 109 Sea Zone. Tactical redeployments secured major resource regions in the east.

Italy continued to lose ground, with Iraq, Trans-Jordan, and parts of North Africa slipping from their grasp. Reinforcements in the Balkans showed desperation rather than strategy.

ANZAC executed multiple amphibious landings, successfully capturing Celebes and Dutch New Guinea. Their strategic island campaign began to pay off.

France remained on the map primarily in Egypt and Libya, with minimal movements.

Round Summary: Allied offensives succeeded in reclaiming Burma and Iraq while Axis forces fortified remaining territories. U.S. and ANZAC forces pushed deeper into the Pacific, and Japan’s position weakened under growing pressure.

    Round 13 Report
Germany expanded its Total War infrastructure, placing elite Waffen units and tanks across Europe. Attacks diminished as they shifted further toward static defense, maintaining vast industrial power.

Russia was reduced to an auxiliary role with a minor production base and few units left.

Japan held firm across China and Southeast Asia, repelling Chinese advances in Yunnan with strong infantry and artillery support. They maintained critical fortifications.

United States reinforced Pacific islands and Gibraltar, moving elite and heavy units into the European and Pacific fronts. Strategic bombers and heavy battleships provided extended range for support.

China lost a major battle in Yunnan and remained on the defensive, with only one territory producing income. Their fighter and infantry capabilities were stretched.

Britain attacked successfully in Trans-Jordan and Burma, supporting the collapse of Axis influence in Asia. They also began staging forces closer to Europe.

Italy fortified Southern Italy and Northern Italy, with rail movements and para boosts in Ukraine. However, their influence outside Europe was nearly gone.

ANZAC launched successful operations in Celebes and Dutch New Guinea, securing more strategic objectives and IPCs. Their transport and air power created new options.

France continued minor troop movements and aided in holding North Africa.

Round Summary: Axis territory shrank under persistent Allied pressure. Germany’s economy peaked while Japan struggled to hold China. ANZAC and the U.S. shaped the Pacific campaign, and Britain led the offensive through Asia and the Middle East.

    Round 14 Report
Germany invested heavily in Total War artillery and tanks, focusing on stacking defensive assets across Europe. No major offensives were launched, suggesting a full transition to defensive posture.

Russia saw no significant action. Soviet resistance had become symbolic.

Japan fortified Burma and Southeast Asia, suffering a setback in Trans-Jordan while maintaining strength in northern territories. Their Pacific holdings came under increasing threat.

United States launched wide-ranging deployments across the Pacific and reinforced Gibraltar and Western Europe. Their presence in Australia and India grew stronger.

China built more infantry in Sikang, trying to reestablish influence. Offensive capabilities remained low.

Britain continued offensive momentum, defeating Japanese forces in Burma and retaking Trans-Jordan from Italy. Heavy air deployments into Russia and India supported ongoing campaigns.

Italy repositioned forces into the Balkans and Ukraine, while losing key territories in the Middle East. Their European core remained under German support.

ANZAC landed in Celebes and Dutch New Guinea, completing several national objectives and further crippling Japanese income through occupation of key islands.

France preserved small outposts and aided British deployments across North Africa and the Middle East.

Round Summary: Round 14 solidified the Allied hold in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Germany entrenched, Japan strained to hold territory, and the Allies gained momentum in all theaters. ANZAC’s expansion and Britain’s versatile offense tightened the strategic noose around Axis powers.

Here are the Final Statistics after Round 14 for each major nation, based on their income (IPCs collected), estimated total IPCs lost during the game, and approximate value of units still on the board. Round 15 - 17

🛡️ Axis War Chronicle: Rounds XV–XVII – Triumph of the Reich
In the fifteenth year of the Great War, the bulwark of the Reich stood impervious. Our borders, reinforced with mighty Total War tanks, rocket artillery, and fortifications, defied the gathering storm from the west. With strategic mastery, we struck into Iraq and Kazakhstan, scattering the British and American presence in the east. Our enemies bled on our defenses, but the iron fist of Germania remained unshaken.

The Italians, embattled yet loyal, reclaimed Syria and Trans-Jordan by parachute and sea. Though their empire had narrowed, their steel still rang true across the Mediterranean and Balkans.

In Asia, the Rising Sun shone brightly once more. Japan’s disciplined forces recaptured Burma, crushed ANZAC incursions in Java and Celebes, and drove deep into Allied positions. Our naval might dominated the South Pacific, while the Imperial infantry swept through Queensland and repelled repeated Chinese uprisings.

In the seventeenth campaign year, the final blow was struck.

From the heart of Europe, the Wehrmacht launched its ultimate offensive. As dawn broke, tanks rolled, jets screamed, and our elite battalions surged eastward. Moscow fell to German hands once again, reclaimed by the Fatherland in a display of strategic brilliance and martial dominance. The Soviet heart was crushed under steel treads.

And with Moscow’s fall, the war was ended.

On Germany’s turn in Round XVII, the Allied resistance collapsed. The British and Americans, though brave, stood shattered and outmaneuvered. The Soviets lay defeated, their remnants scattered and powerless. China and France, reduced to shadows, could offer no reprieve.

    The Axis had prevailed.

Let the chronicles record: this was our final triumph, our iron victory.

⚔️ Allied Annals of Liberation: Rounds XV–XVII – A Final Stand
As the fifteenth year dawned, the Allies surged across every front. British commandos liberated Holland Belgium and Southern France. In Asia, Indian divisions stormed Burma and Yunnan. American fleets spread from the Persian Gulf to the Coral Sea, carrying tanks, bombers, and hope.

ANZAC pushed hard in the Pacific, securing Celebes and Java, disrupting Japanese supply lines. China, though broken, fought one last battle for Yunnan, while France raised its tricolor over Tobruk and Libya once more.

In the sixteenth year, victory seemed within reach. Allied forces stood in Burma, Central Asia, and the heart of France. Bombers blackened Axis skies. German rocket batteries and elite tanks faced growing pressure. Italy collapsed outside the Alps, and Japan, though strong, was bending.

    But it was not enough.

In the seventeenth year, as the Allies braced for final liberation, the Axis struck. Germany, silent and poised, launched a catastrophic assault eastward. With terrifying precision and overwhelming might, they crushed the last Soviet defenses. Moscow fell.

With the loss of the Soviet capital, the Allied cause was defeated. Despite heroic efforts and global advances, the Axis retained control of Europe and Asia’s heartlands. The Allies could no longer sustain resistance.

Thus ended the greatest war in history—not with the liberation of Europe, but with its domination under the black cross of the Reich.

    @Panzerstahl-Helm

lol The AI is hilarious :) I’ll add some brief comments after bit

    Edit
The game technically ended at the End of 1946 due to Economic Victory. Panzer and I decided to play on to fight out the big Moscow battle.

Not wanting to take any chances in Moscow, especially with that nasty FlakTower in play, the reich took the entirety of 1947 producing Total War Panzers and airlifting them to the front :)

Soviets rolled poorly in the first rd and moscow was obliterated :)

    Screenshot from 2025-06-24 18-03-22.png

Germany was able to flank the large LM stack and avoid it. The Flak also rolled below average.

I tried a J 2 attack. I had done it once before against Victory but didn’t execute it correctly. I used to do it in solo games, so thought I’d try it if the circumstances were right.

While it ultimately worked, it was a long hard fought battle as Panzer always has a few surprises I don’t see coming :)

To correct the AI, moscow never fell till the end.

Here’s final save EXP Game 8 Panzer Combat Over G 17.tsvg

Thanks to Panzer for another fun and challenging game :)

The Drums begin to beat again and battle will soon be joined once more. This time with Elite Panzers and Heavy Carriers !

    Rock On

    Hi Panzer,

    Great and very detailed report.

    Remember:
1 round of play is 6 months. This concerns your time scale of 15 years of War which would require 30 rounds of play…

Instead of mentioning the rounds, we advice you to instead mention the Year & Season for each round.
Example: Early 1943 (instead of round 7).

This also reminds any viewer of the Historical timeline of World War II.

    Anyway, great game report.
