i give up on playing axis BM against your level. either you’re that much better than i am, or this is not balanced for axis. i had some pretty good luck in this one too…once again i tried something out of the box (germany helping italy early on with lots of air support) and russia became unbearable as a result. most likely if axis has any real chance at this level of play, it is within a very narrow range of options, and i mean very narrow.

Good game.
Higher levels do narrow the range of options, but I still believe both sides have a wider range of options in BM than in vanilla at any level of play.

one big factor i noticed in this version is that anz can play way more naval than in vanilla. first it can easily afford it, but second, it has time on its side, since india and china are significantly harder to take out. in vanilla, india and china are toast pretty early on, so anz has to turtle up more on land. so it seems like allies have endless naval fodder in the pac…

how is that so? first, with vanilla+bid, there are simply way more possibilities…my game with omega was a perfect example of how different the game can turn out based on the bid. second, didn’t we already prove that in BM, G1 and G2 are no longer viable? and altho i haven’t tried for myself, i’m going off of what you told me that J1 too isn’t as appealing, which probably means it’s also not viable in BM. in vanilla, as axis i can play to an economic victory whereas in BM doesn’t seem possible. i can also afford to build more navy as axis and do the kinds of things i did in this match, but not so in BM. i think the only way to win at this level is for axis to throw as much as possible at russia, and even then it’d be really tough. but i think that’s really the only option.
and anyway, i don’t think vanilla+bid is the answer either. i really love a lot of the rules in BM, including and especially vichy, china, cap capture rule, and such. i like the new NOs as well, but i think that’s where perhaps the problem lies. i think either the axis need a few more NOs (e.g., 5 bonus for china conquest) or allied NOs need to be cut down a bit more.
anyway i know you’re pretty set in your opinion. i guess time and more expert players trying it will tell.

Don’t worry J1 is still good, it just isn’t overpowered like it was in vanilla. J1 in vanilla is probably as overpowered as G1 is underpowered in BM.
Most of my Axis victories in BM were from getting the economic edge, it’s not unreasonable for the Axis to achieve parity or more, and parity is more than enough because the Axis don’t have to spend loads on transports (depends on the situation though) and their income is focused.
Yeah time will tell. I can show you as Axis if you want .

sure let’s flip it around
