• I had not picked a sci-fi film, but have to agree with Yanny on that one.  Wrath of Khan is an AWESOME flick.  And Khan SHOULD have gotten the “Best Supporting Actor” Oscar that year…

  • Damn, I forgot Memento; that was an awesome movie, I think it’ll have to tie with The Sixth Sense for my favorite suspense.

  • Drama: Inn of the sixth happiness, Rounders, Ran
Comedy: Friday after next, Dont be a menace ( while drinking your juice in the hood), the great dictator
Action: Transporter (first 45 minutes), scarface, king of new york
Suspense: Glen Gary, Glen Ross, Usual suspects
Sci-Fi: Empire strikes back, Battlestar Galactica
    Horror: Destroy all Monsters
    War: Longest Day, Sparticus, Conspiracy
Cartoon: anything with disney/warner brothers and Hitler made during world war two.

  • @Wargaming_nut:

    Drama: Donnie Darko

I wouldnt call Donnie Darko a drama.  It is however a good movie, but I think I would classify that movie under Sci-Fi.

  • You know, I just realized that we are being a bit sexist in our movie choices…

    Best Chick Flick:  Pretty Woman

    Best tear-jerker:  Ghost

Best Lifetime Movie:  They are all the same.

Yea Pretty Woman is a good choice but for tear-jerker Id have to say “A Walk to Remember.”  That was a very sad movie at the end.

Actually for Chick Flick Id have to pick “When the boys are away, the girls will play.”  That movie is a really great Chick Flick……I kid I kid.

  • Don’t forget about “cool hand luke”!! Can you tell that I’m an old fart?

My lists of good movies change with time and mood here’s what I’ve got tonight:

Drama: Easy Rider (I love the ending)
    Comedy: Shawn of the Dead
Action: Any of the Indiana Jones movies.  (Good action always has Nazis)
Sci-Fi: Starship Troopers (All I gota say is: Bugs, Boobs and Nuclear RPGs…)
Horror: The Hills Have Eyes Original (I saw it in the Drive in and had nitemares for years.)
War: Saving Private Ryan (still the most realistic I think)
Cartoon: Heavy Metal (Them cartoon chicks are hot!)

  • Welcome back DF!

As for Heavy Metal…  yep, HUGE flower shaped mamalian protruberances with flower shaped nipples.  Guess it falls under the category of “American Anime” :-)

In the same line of thinking…
    Best Porn Plot:  Cafe Flesh

Best Porn Special Effects:  Juranal Park (gotta love the guy holding the one color plastic dinosaurs and moving htem back and forth in front of the camera going “ggrrr, grrr” as the “footage” of the dinosaurs rampaging through the island!)

And some of the other categories we missed earlier that folks might want to add…

Best Musical  (My Fair Lady is at or near the top of that cat for me)
Best Western (not the hotel chain :-P )

And some sub-categories could have their own rating too…

Best Zombie Movie:  Resident Evil is my personal fave in that line
Best Star Trek Movie:  Wrath of Khan
    Best Star Wars Movie:  Original
    Best Classic Sci-Fi:  Forbidden Planet
Best Monster Movie:  Godzilla (the original)

  • Damn, I can’t pick just one.

  • Best Action:  Top Gun, Return of the King, Armageddon (if you can get past the ridiculous premise - sound track is awesome)
Best Drama:  The American President (The West Wing in movie form)
    Best Cartoon:  The Incredibles
Best Horror:  The Shining - the music makes the picture
Best Western:  Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
    Best Comedy:  Spaceballs, Top Secret
Best Musical:  The Little Shop of Horrors (Steve Martin as the sadistic dentist and Bill Murray as the masochistic patient is amazing - I don’t know about you but all dentists are sadistic in my mind)
Best Cult Movie:  Rocky Horror Picture Show
Best Star Trek Movies:  The Journey Home, First Contact

    Best Star Trek Episodes Ever:

TOS:  City on the Edge of Forever, Balance of Terror, A Piece of the Action, Spectre of the Gun
TNG:  The Naked Now, Inner Light, The Best of Both Worlds, Yesterday’s Enterprise, Deja Q

That movie is funny as hell!

HELMET: Who made that man a gunner?
MAJOR: I did, sir. He’s my cousin.

    HELMET: Who is he?

    SANDURZ: He’s an Asshole, sir.

HELMET: I know that. What’s his name?

SANDURZ: That is his name, sir. Asshole, Major Asshole.

    HELMET: And his cousin?

SANDURZ: He’s an Asshole, too, sir. Gunner’s-mate, 1st Class, Philip Asshole.

HELMET: How many Assholes we got on this ship, anyhow?

    ALL: Yo!

HELMET: I knew it. I’m surrounded by Assholes. Keep firing, Assholes.
