Ragnarok is coming in SZ112 - I’m bringing every German unit that can make it - I assume you’ll scramble - if so, which fighters?
It’s a 76% battle for me with 7 units remaining if I win, and will define whether or not I have a chance in this game. A victory for me will allow German/Italy some breathing space to be assertive again, to see if I can find some balance and perhaps regain initiative. A loss in for Germany in 112 will mean a continuation of the slow death of the Axis. Good times! :lol:

When I ran the simulator last night, I apparently didn’t add your 3 scrambled fighters. The battle drops to 21%… oops. I spent a good chunk of my day on the road, thinking about my German purchase based on a 76% to win. Ugh!
So a normal German turn on the way, but now I have to replan.

Yes the early bad luck for Germany hurt me… but that had nothing to do with Japan being contained. I’ve won games with worse luck. It was your play.

Well, the Axis are now my weak side. I used to think they were my strong side, but I’ve played more games as the allies and won more with them… Also, I’ve had the worst luck with them lately. My german openings have just sucked on the dice!

Ok, there is no plan. Rather than holing up 10 turns from now in Berlin, and waiting for the fire bombing of Tokyo, I’d rather surrender now with some honor and dignity intact. The game is yours.
When I spend two hours looking at the map over and over, and purchasing sixteen different purchases for Germany, and don’t see any way out, and my wife asks me how it’s going and I say bad, it means it’s time to move on :roll:
You played without error in this game, which is very challenging to play against. You were focused, and extremely solid in every facet. Honestly, there was no signature moment for me to point to… no particular purchase, or strategy, or dice failure. It was a methodical dismantling. I’ll submit the battle report and move on. Well played! You’ve been a fun opponent.

Hey guys, sorry for highjacking this thread, but I followed your game. Just a question: You said you have 21% with scrambled fighters. Why not just try it and hope for a miracle? Does not cost anything and we are talking about 21% and not 2%. So you might catch a top10% battle which leaves you more units behind than average in the simulator. Isn’t this worth a shot before surrendering?

Hey Tobias, great question, and I have two answers :-)
The first is yes! Of course I should. I should always take a swing at the fences before going down. It makes rational sense. If I’m going to lose anyhow, shouldn’t I blow up as much of the world as possible on the way? What if I won the battle? I might be right back in this game, just maybe.
The second answer is no, and based on a visceral rather than rational outlook. I play the game for the most part by odds; by math, by probability. I have a very strong (perhaps absurd :wink:) aversion to winning games based on chance rather than skill. Karl outplayed me, hands down. I don’t feel I deserve to have a chance to win based on dice, just as I don’t feel he should have a chance to lose based on dice. I know this is a very rare way of looking at A&A, but for me it’s an important part of the experience.
To me, A&A is a skill-based game with the element of chance, rather than a chance-based game with an element of skill (think Risk). This difference means everything to me, and is the exact reason I play Axis & Allies instead of Risk :-D
