FYI I bombed the Moscow factory (for 3 damage) but I forgot to move my bomber during combat move so I rolled it on the server and edited, if ok.

I believe allowing this attack killed the winning chances of the Axis. At the given point, the game is strategically more or less lost for the Axis.
That was my first thought too, especially with the snake eyes bombing Moscow. USSR should be able to outbuild Germany now wrt forces in USSR if there isn’t a large swing in incomes. Still, there might be some possibilities, I want to give it into next round.
Really, I think Japan ceded too much initiative round 5 when it allowed ANZAC to take Java and hold it for a turn, without even being able to kill the ships. Round 6 two more money islands fell. Japan had to work to regain naval dominance and it didn’t get there. With the large potential attack on SZ6 some radical action may have been needed but I don’t think I made enough of an attempt to at least kill said ships.
I find it surprising that China is fighting on. I guess Japan has had to kill the Russians as well which has slowed it down.

Yah hehe… I bought 3 carriers for Germany in my last game against Adam, and yet to his surprise, still broke through the Rostov gate. I still lost, but that’s another matter altogether…

Ok, I’m going to concede the game here. Got to head out.

Thanks for the game!

I’d recommend putting less emphasis on strategic bombing. Only do it if your bombers have nothing else to do, and it doesn’t put them out of position.

In general, I agree and if one follows my Axis games one will see that I do not do a lot SBR with the Axis.
However, when playing Allies I kind of fear players that put emphasis on relentlessly bombing Moscow such as BobbaRossa. It is a dicey move but if it goes well for the Axis in the critical turns 4-8, it can definitely prevent the Russians from building up both, mass and attack power to keep the Germans honest. If one is lacking, the Germans can penetrate the middle East making minimal concessions. However, making concessions is vital for the Allies. They cannot prevent the Germans from entering the Middle East but it must come with a price. Successful SBR can keep the price low (but can also put the Germans in trouble as their bombers are very, very precious!) -
Interesting thought. I did think the potential interceptors were kinda thin in this game. I only strat bombed Moscow as I recall.
G6 12dmg
G7 9dmg -1bomb
G8 8dmg
G9 -2bombCan’t call that wildly successful. -7IPCs on raw numbers. But my dice were poor on these attacks. You expect +2.5IPCs per bomber per attack, ignoring lost damage from maxing damage out. Isn’t it easier to prevent USSR from building units than actually destroying them?
I’m just a bit disappointed about not getting position in Ukraine until G5. Although it looks like that would not have allowed me to blast through to Rostov. Perhaps with attrition I would have gotten into a position to do so. Perhaps not. I guess the conclusion of that is that I’m still questioning about the best Barbarossa strategy.
One thing I will say is that I didn’t like the allied stack of Burma UK1. The Flying Tiger and UK fighter from India could have participated in that stack. If so, I would not have attacked. If Japan had been played slightly better, Pacific victory could have occurred. The USSR needed to attack to occupy Japan’s forces and take pressure off ANZAC. Or do you not agree?
In fact, Java could have been navally protected round 5. Instead I took Guam. Why, why? I could have taken Guam still, just would have had to suicide a transport which would not have been worth it IMO.
Anyway, thanks for the game. That’s got to be one of the fastest games I’ve played. So much appreciated.
Also I think it’s easily the most competitive game I’ve played with you. The only one I can find which I’ve played a standard strategy. So I feel reasonably satisfied in spite of the imperfections in my game. It seems in this game the best tactical players are the best players overall.
-
You weren’t close to a Pacific victory, I wasn’t worried. Leaving Anzac able to take the DEI and keep their tp was a big mistake though.
Yeah this was closer than our other games.
