I was terrified that you were going to have Italy take Bryansk, and then move your fast Germans down into Rostov. From there, you threaten UK’s burgeoning production base, and are in range to easily take Volgograd/Cacauses on the next turn, for a massive German economy increase. I was scared enough to place six easily-killed russians in Bryansk to stop you, and had even considered seven.
What you could have still done, but didn’t, is combat move your Italian tanks from Eastern Poland to Smolensk. This would have allowed your planes to land on your main stack on Germany’s turn. Instead, your Italian tanks simply stayed there, and didn’t move at all.
If they had moved forward, you’d have not only your plane stack, but also those two Italian tanks throwing defense dice. You would have been 100% fine against anything Russia could throw at you. This is standard stuff for an Italy can-opener. Italy goes first, builds the airstrips, and the Germans come in. Every turn. Until you win.
Do you want to ret-con this into the game? Not doing so costs your Axis side an entire round of progress.

Very kind of you to offer a “ret-con” - does that mean a retrospective correction?
Not for my sake tes - I should live with my mistakes and if I do manage to win this game I’d like to think I did so under my own steam. But if it keeps the game interesting for you then yes of course.
One of my major weaknesses is playing the powers individually. I have can opened a few times in different games, but need to overcome my first thought always being for Italy to defend Italy, leaving few units to go east.

If it wasn’t just as simple as picking up your two Italian (or even just one) and moving them over, then maybe I’d be petty about it. But it is. It was a super simple move, and I think the lesson has already been burned into your brain :p
No sense in giving up this opportunity and our hard work of playing one another because of one minor mistake that didn’t even involve rolling dice. Feel free to edit the correction in, sir. I don’t mind one bit.
(and that gives Italy 1 more IPC as well!)

That’s the first time anyone has attacked the true neutrals on me.
But Spain and Turkey do give you platforms don’t they. Mmm!

Seriously? First time ever? How many games have you played?
I had these choices available to me:
1:
Make a sloppy landing in Southern France or Normandy. Both would put my fleet at serious risk, and both would have been easily kicked out by Germany within two rounds, if not the very first round, for a total net gain of zilch or worse. Germany shifts focus to helping Italy or 100% Russia. No good.2:
Head up to Norway. Germany has two transports of its own, and enough planes, to kick me back out. My transports would have definitely been dead, and my fleet only worth sending to get some lucky hits on planes (still probably worth it). The cost of the transports + ground troops to distract Germany and take 8-10 IPCs for a couple of rounds didn’t seem like a strong choice. Germany can shift focus to helping Italy or 100% Russia, albeit maybe one turn later. Meh.3:
Sit around for a round and do nothing, waiting for more money to be spent in America for the Atlantic, wasting actually two turns. This keeps the pressure on the European axis, but it’s not enough pressure to keep Russia alive I don’t think.4:
Head back to the Pacific. There’s already a naval base in central america. This was the other option I was considering. I made you build a bunch of slow units for Germany, so it slowed you down already. Looking at the above options, these troops could have been in Japan in 3 turns. If your Japanese fleet was off of the coast of India, not where it is now, I probably would have done this. Germany could buff up significantly, but Japan would have a very, very high chance of being screwed.5:
Neutral crush, and only because Britain was there to secure Turkey. Stripping off Afghanistan while I still had time also seemed like a good idea. Don’t want to give you 4 free Japanese dudes for one artillery in a couple of turns, and it was now or never to do it. Sweden ups your economy by 3, but those 6 dudes are so slow and so far away that they don’t hinder the Allied efforts at any point before 3 turns from now since Norway is now never going to be a landing position. You are in range for no other neutral countries that matter. I have factories to contain any Japanese Saudi Arabia/Mozambique/Angola nonsense you might try to pull. This seemed like, at the worst, not a worse plan than #4, and neutral crushing is always a lot of fun. Maybe it’d take you by surprise.
