    why the IC in shantung vs…Kiangsu?

    what was up with you attacking eire? An airbase next turn?

    why not take normandy by Germany?


  • The IC in shantung was in response to you leaving all Russians in the east. This way I can pour mechs out of there to defend my northern border. The last headache I want is a puny US invasion of Korea backed up by 18 drunk and angry russkies. The timing of that before Japan can respond is pretty brutal. If you had withdrawn those units west to Moscow I would’ve waited and put ICs in Malaya and Kwangtung instead. Also, the distance from shantung to yunnan (and India) is the same as from kiangsu, but shantung has the option of going north.

    Attacking Eire was in case you didn’t scramble in that battle. You’d have had 4 planes on the return attack and I wanted a spot for my planes trapped on the carrier to land and not poof.

    I’ve found that not taking Normandy just works out better for me psychologically. There’s not this tempting fruit (free IC) for the Americans to fight tooth and nail over. I never build anything out of it and Germany only slightly misses the 2 IPC per turn. Well worth it IMO to prevent 3 tanks a turn there on rounds 5+. Also, this allows me to stack in W. Germany where I have a major factory vs. France with only a minor. I want to keep that supply line as short as possible because you’re going to unleash the American whirlwind on me. Also, I might have taken it if you’d gone full Pac buy first turn, that carrier is frightening :P.

    Question for you: why the transport to 119? You could have blitzed your armor and mech through scotland to eire to achieve the same result without exposing the transport.

    JPN IC placement, makes perfect sense! I understand the eire attack. I should have had my UK bmb take out the G trn vs taking eire! Again that moves make sense. Not taking normandy……genius…I am now officially scared. Really, the reasoning behind that is very smart.

    Honestly the move I was most afraid of was using your UK bomber to take out my Italian transport. That’s why I kept a cruiser instead of a fighter cause I wanted to have a 50/50 chance to kill the American bomber and was hoping you’d hit my german tranny with the UK bomber. Without that Italian transport I would’ve lost the Med cause I couldn’t keep the canal shut down. Your fleet in SZ91 is quite imposing. Took a much bigger risk than I like taking, but it worked out ok. This game has too many decisions in it (and too many chances for a plan to fall apart), my head aches just trying to keep up :P.

    I’d love to take credit for thinking through the Normandy play, but that came about completely by accident. In my game against Fortress I tried to take it with 2 armors and a mech and failed miserably. Just said “screw it” cause I was out of units on the western front :P. Ended up working out so well I rolled it into my base strat.
