2020 Championship: axis-dominion vs ksmckay (+22)

@axis-dominion yep. not good enough. You already had the game won, particularly if I had just moved to wake. wasnt exactly the battle I was looking for but I felt forced into it. If it was deadzoned then it was deadzoned forever and I needed to spend money in europe. Hoped you were confident enough in your position not to risk it.
-
do you want me to wrap up the turn and post, to continue?
-
@axis-dominion well played, good game, you deserve the win.

thanks man, I Gotta say your allied play is very strong, and while it did feel like axis were dominating, it also was a huge struggle. I was very worried about that massive allied fleet that kept building up relentlessly. and allies in Europe weren’t weak either, altho that much attention on Japan really did help the germans get some breathing room. definitely very well played on your part, one of my hardest games for sure.

@axis-dominion I shouldnt have gone to Iwo. That was a mistake. But I wanted to make something happen. (something other than what happened).
Germans were about to be unstoppable. (they already were).

I started having second thoughts once Japan’s turn came around, and I very nearly decided against it. however, I thought about how long and drawn out the game would become, and how much heat you were gonna start applying in Europe, so I figured I’d take the risk at 95% odds. plus it was tricky cuz 24 of those figs would not be able to land anywhere, so if I was TOO successful, I’d lose a bunch of planes (I suppose that’s still not a bad problem to have).

@axis-dominion in hindsight the russians going into China was probably a mistake. But I dunno. Kept India alive but once I gave up the ME then I couldnt do anything with India anyway. And Germany had a billion units and a strong airforce. I probably should have just continued to play patient but started to feel desperate and was looking for a chance to gamble defensively.

yah I didn’t think the Iwo move was that great, however, it was tempting me at first to swoop in for the Aussie kill. then I thought about how messy that would get, with a lot of unknowns… and I saw the Korea threat as well, so stacking manch seemed the best course to safeguard against that. so I was really looking for a way to punish you back for taking iwo, but without sacrificing Korea or getting convoyed etc. Paulau seemed just the right move, with the benefit of deadzoning Caro.

yes imo losing that Russian stack was a huge setback for the allies. I didn’t mind india staying alive as they weren’t going anywhere, and it allowed the germans to subdue the ME without worry about a retreating stack.

@axis-dominion yep, I knew russia was a gamble and I havent done that much in the past, so it was a little bit of an unknown. But it was probably the wrong call.
And Iwo just wasnt a good move. Didnt put enough thought into that one but you were catching up income wise and I needed to put money back into europe and wanted to make something happen.

yah that’s very understandable for sure. it can be quite depressing when germany gets that big, and it’s Air Force keeps growing like that.

man, only a single successful bombing run all game, with only one other attempt that was a failure. that’s gotta be a record lol… it’s that dang price adjustment, makes failed bombing runs oh so much more painful lol
-
I do feel like allies need the bombing campaign much more than axis, particularly in Europe. so while the price hike can definitely discourage a German bomber spamming, it can also discourage a more aggressive allied bombing campaign later in the game.
