    ITALY ROUND 1:

    A solid “slow-and-steady” strategy of consolidating the factories near you, and with good dice.

    You did not attack the neutrals, instead pushing mostly West. The question will be if you’re then going to try for Egypt at all, or just keep pace with the naval build up while maximizing land units from Rome to Africa.

    OPPORTUNITY FOR ME: One opportunity I did note was there doesn’t seem to be enough protection for two of your transports. Cutting off your supply line is vital, so the UK will fly three fighters that can land on Malta to try and destroy 2 transports on their 1st turn. That’s 4 less units a turn onto Africa, or a round where you lose 12 ICs to replace the loss, thus being able to spend less on ground troops. Either way, I should see a hiccup in the stream of Italian troops which may provide an opportunity to advance in the near future.

    FRANCE ROUND 1:
    Nothing much to do with them. A gambled a sub vs Italian sub, hoping to open up a naval assault, but lost. I did win with no loses vs Thai in FIC.

    I think I’m going to try and send French Canadian units and 2 from Africa to South America to get more money. I’ll see if that helps at all.

    JAPANESE ROUND 1:

    Things went very well for you with the dice. You went in with the battleship at Pearl, and you accomplished a lot of naval clearing out West. Not too much to critique.

    I am puzzled by the factory placement in Chubu? You don’t have enough money to maximize deployment from there AND your capital yet. Perhaps it’s a play to start a continuous stream of troops…to somewhere? If the factory isn’t forward-deployed, you don’t gain a placement advantage, only a # of troops advantage that you can’t capitalize on yet. Perhaps it will be a land bridge to Russia or New Guinea. Time will tell.

    CHINA ROUND 1:
    For China it’s about blocking blitzes from the Japanese as you retreat for a couple of turns. I like to take out neutrals to give China a bit more money before the frontline forms.

    For purchases, there are multiple approaches. Slow and steady infantry wall works. I’ve tried all mobile units to some success, and one plane plus inf per turn has worked. It’s more about seeing what Japan/Hisaich do and making sure you’re acting defensively enough. If they drop multiple factories near China, a wall of armored cars won’t hold them back.

    HISAICHI ROUND 1:

    There are many options for the Japanese/Korean players. It seems your strategy is Russia first for Hisaichi. It was a solid turn of monetary gains from Manila and Kwangsi.

    Bad luck in Hong Kong, but that’s less detrimental than if Yam had lost Davao. The UK’s money is really low and stretched thin on the first turn. Hong Kong is so remote that it rarely makes sense to try and reinforce it round one. That’s forces that won’t be deployed in Cairo, and there’s no doubt one of the Japanese powers will take it next round.

    BRITAIN ROUND 1:

    I feel that Britain has the most options out of the gate:
    • They must contend with the German navy. Do they want to start landing troops in Europe?
    • There might be a chance they can reinforce France if Germany tries to cheap out on taking Paris.
    • They can spend more money in Cairo to hold off Italy.
    • They can spread into the Middle East and move to either Africa or the Pacific from there.
    • There are a number of reinforcement opportunities in the Pacific. Do they combine navies with ANZAC? Do they each have their separate islands to reinforce? Is Malaya still in play?
    • They have to hold off Japan via China and Thai expansion as well.
    • Do they use South Africa as a cheaper alternative to the Middle East?

    And of course whichever direction they throw there money makes it harder for a specific Axis player but easier for others. I view the UKs role as the power that has to put pressure on the Axis when/where the other Allied powers can’t. Only the UK can hold Italy in check to the East, and only India can stop Thai/Japan from going crazy in China.

    For my first round I’ve decided to try and expand the UKs money by going into the Middle East. From there the goal is to out-deploy Italy via multiple factories. Reinforcing Malaya seems like a good play since you didn’t take HongKong, and any Malaya strike will be postponed due to it.

    I had terrible luck against your submarines, and I did take out your two transports and destroyer, but it cost me 3 planes to do so. I also had to keep in mind that Germany has 2 transports that could have landed on the UK, forcing me to move units to the coast.

  • ANZAC ROUND 1:
    ANZAC has far less choices. I prefer the strategy of a naval build up that protects transports so I can reinforce the DEI. If I continue to build navy, then it’s a second front with the UK that Japan has to spend against/be wary of, and look for threats from planes. If you maintain pressure long enough, you can prevent japan from getting additional money and having less to spend against the US.

    That makes it critical for Japan to knock out the Allied fleet if possible, and hold them at bay at a minimum, as soon as possible. I have yet to see a game where Japan did well but didn’t take Borneo and Malaya.

    DUTCH ROUND 1:

    Really nothing to do with them. They have few options, and their round 1 is pretty scripted. Reinforce the capital.
    You can either have them set up a factory in South America, and slowly over time they can start buying units and taking over neutrals, but I find it FAR more effective to have them save money and start putting bunkers on any key island that the Allies still have at the start of their turn. Having to retake the DEI islands as Japan, and seeing an extra bunker placed on top of every island makes a lot costlier for Japan to retake what Anzac/UK can do.

    FIN ROUND 1:
    Standard moves. They don’t have many options, really.

    ROMANIA ROUND 1:
    Giving them the neutrals has worked for me in the past. It’s difficult at times because Germany gets less to spend against Russia, but there’s more supporting/can-opener moves available due to them having more income.

    THAI ROUND 1:
    I see Thai took a Philippines island opening up one more transport to attack the Dutch capital. Only brings you up to a 48% chance Round 2. Probably best to reinforce and set up for a Round 3 capital move.

    If you are considering a 1-2 move where if Yam doesn’t take it, Hisaichi can take it Round 2. That would be a good move to prevent more of a build up, however it might shuffle around prior plans. The PROS: Yam’s transports can land elsewhere besides the DEI, such as Hong Kong. If you get luck, they’d take TWO factories. If they’re unlucky, then only one for Yam but one more for Hisaichi.

    Taking it Round 2 as Hisaichi would be a bit of a resource drain to do that and hold off Russia, meaning Yam would have to get more involved on the mainland, but that’s easy enough to do if they get Hong Kong this round.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are going to opt for the 1-2 attack this round, you MUST take Hunan as Yamamoto. If you don’t and Yam doesn’t take the Dutch capital, China can use its 3 tanks to attack the Hisaichi inf & tank in Kwangsi. If those two units get destroyed before Hisaichi can move, taking the Dutch capital drops from 82% to 29%.

    So that’s the kid of planning I’m thinking about as the Axis a round ahead. There’s so much more coordination required between Yam/His/Thai than any other powers on the board. Anzac does need to coordinate some with the UK and Dutch, but their scope is so limited it’s not on the same scale as Japan.

    USA ROUND 1:

    Well Yam had some good luck against my fleet AND they move the BB and dd in while also moving the carriers in range. Unfortunately, Germany also did well with its subs so I have to decided. The French dd/tt are screwed, but I have to destroy the Japanese fleet.

    I will have to move everything available to throw at them, including sacrificing a couple of transports for fodder to win, but I have good odds on both. The negative is that my transport capacity will be reduced, and I’m going to lose a lot of planes, as reaching the carriers is difficult.

    I intend on expanding rapidly into South America, and after the (I hope) destruction of a large portion of the Japanese fleet, I can spend a lot to recover. I’m feeling like a Japanese-intensive campaign.

    I will forward deploy a cruiser/BB/marine from Hawaii so that I can take an island next round. If I stick with that purchasing combo from there, Japan will soon feel the pressure of losing islands and an encroaching fleet. It will be difficult to recover from the carrier/BB lose while still trying to gain money from Malaya/Dutch/China.
