    Looks like the coin toss in Norway went my way. The best I could make it was a coin toss, and you had to make the attack. For what it’s worth, I think that just evened the game out – before that, you definitely had the upper hand.

    OK, thanks.  I’ll tell you what.  There’s a 10 IPC difference between an upgrade and a major.

    I guess I can do three things:

    1. lose the 10 IPCs and go ahead and upgrade the factory
    2. upgrade the factory and place 10 IPCs worth of stuff this round
      or
    3. upgrade the factory and put 10 IPCs away for next turn

    I’ll leave it up to you.

    It does have to be a three, but it also has to be a territory that you originally control. If you had built a minor in Romania, for instance, you could upgrade it to a major.

    Redo your build with that in mind. I would say keep what you already built, of course (except for the factory upgrade) but spend the remainder on whatever you want.

    OK.  I think I have it right now.  I replaced the major with a minor in Leningrad and I placed 30 IPCs worth of units on the board.

    Sorry about all the confusion. I think I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve ever tried upgrading a factory, so I wasn’t too clear about it.

    I still have a major factory sitting in my purchased column.  I guess next turn I’ll just have to deploy it somewhere and then delete it the same round.  :-P

    Frig.  Yet another screw-up on my part.  So I just checked the game history and I did buy a factory upgrade, not a major.  I guess the reason I couldn’t place it was because of the reasons you just mentioned.  I had assumed it was because I purchased the wrong item, though I’m sure it was showing a major factory in my list of purchases (maybe that’s how it shows a major upgrade?  If so, that’s confusing).

    That means I should have only had 20 extra IPCs to place, instead of 30.  I will fix it when I get back from camping on Monday by removing a tank and mech from Germany.  I have to spend some time with the girlfriend, so won’t be playing any more until I get back.

    Again, my apologies.  I think this damn game is just too involved for my old brain sometimes.  :-P

    You started with 55IPCs. To quote…

    Germans buy 1 armour, 1 artillery, 1 bomber, 1 factory_upgrade, 1 mech_infantry and 1 tactical_bomber; Remaining resources: 0 PUs;

    Simply take out the 18 IPC for factory upgrade. Download the first German turn file, place with 18 IPCs worth of units somewhere in Germany (because you’re all built out in Russia), and you’re done. I’ll redo Russia’s turn based on your build placement (keeping the same die rolls), though frankly I’d be hard pressed to see a situation in which your additional 18 IPCs cause me to change Russia’s actions.
