RetroFuhrerMeister's Global 1942 Setup

  • @Charles:

I’m rollin’! 1940 VARIATIONS ARE MY FAVORITE! I CANNOT wait.

P.S. if you disappoint me you have done a terrible job. When it comes to 1940 variations for setup I take everything.

Well I have played with the setups, but not exactly an expert player, so don’t be surprised about balance issues.

The only one I had any opportunity of playing with other players was the last one I posted, that one is the only one I’m sure is nearly perfectly balanced

I’m gonna sticky this thread for further observation and testing from members… it’s nice to have more setup options (if it’s good).

Well the only setup I’m sure of is good is the latest 1942 setup, the 1940 ones I have yet to get any real players to test out (I’m not the best A&A player, so sometimes I miss stuff), I had posted a Triple A version of the 1940 Global setup I made, but it’s never got any attention. I do intend to redo it, and make it more interesting (New turn sequence, a Triple A version included).

When the new setup is ready, I’ll delete all but my 1942 setups. I will put this on the original post, under spoilers to prevent too much text from flooding the screen.

Well, it’s a sticky thread now so it should get a little attention… make your changes but keep the first couple of posts clean as it’s the first thing members will see. let us know when they’re updated to your satisfaction so we can start taking them seriously. I really like the work and thought put into your setups and that’s why I stuck it… but you should finalize them as soon as possible.

I’m going to post it tomorrow.

  • Some questions: I copied over your 1940 before you deleted it. Should I bother playing it? 2 You have 3 1942 setups. I am assuming the one that replaced the 1940 is the same as the last one. Should I not bother playing the 1942 setup with a lot of pieces? (2nd one) last question: can I play your 1942 without those special French rules?

Only the latest 1942 setup has been tested, and yes, the French rules are only optional. The 1940 setup is no longer supported.

The new 1940 game however will include new rules that have to be followed through for the setup it comes with (national objectives, three new units, and a new turn order), this one will take me some time, tomorrow was not a good estimate of time given I was called in for a series of days to work. Probably 2-3 weeks on that.

  • I noticed for the latest 1942 you don’t specify different setups for standalone Europe or Pacific. Is this true? Btw which 1942 should I Play?

The latest one is good (older ones were Allied favored), I do plan for separate setups soon.

EDIT: Posted them. They are on the original post.

  • Excellent game!  Me and my bros will he playing it a little until Friday. Very nice (particularly the historical Eastern Front) but two things bother me. Russia holds Persia and Iraq. Why? The UK really had them and it is a nice place for UK factory. I understand that it does give Russia a nice boost.
France. I am all for them but three riggers in England vs one UK fighter?  Really?
Other than that great game. I feel it is balanced. Thanks a lot! Keep up the good workroom!

The Persian and Iraq territories under Soviet control was to represent allied support to the USSR, also Persia is more within the Soviet sphere of influence than the British one. Iraq easily could of gone either way, look at how the cold war turned out.

The French fighters represent the exiled allied forces in the UK that heavily aided in Britain’s defense during 1940. Particularly the Polish and French pilots (who performed better on average than their British counterparts, not to take away credit from the British), also, the British have technically 6 air units on or around the British isles, so it’s not really a big deal for the numbers sake.

EDIT: The airbases in Gilbert Islands and Solomon are not supposed to be there, I also forgot to put the Japanese control marker in the setup, apologies to you. I also forgot Japan control Aleutian Islands. I made the changes to the chart, again sorry. (The errors were due to myself, when copying over the old setup [which was to save time] and making the necessary changes, that I forgot to remove some stuff, this is also why sometimes you see “1 cruisers” or “2 tank” rather than the grammatically correct terms, again I fixed these just now)

I hope you will enjoy the upcoming 1940 setup and rules.

  • Ok thanks! As for the misstakes it is no problem as I am playing Europe only. Can’t wait for 1940!

I RECCOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE OUT THERE! TRY IT YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

Very well thought out, I’ll look at it closer on the weekend.

  • Any more updates on the 1940 setup?

It’s the second post. I honestly don’t know, until I have the chance to play it and the rules that go with it with someone, to find out if it’s imbalanced or not, so I can make the necessary changes.

  • I’m interested to see what people think of this setup using the balance mod, but with 1942 alterations (Turn order).

  • Triple A File is here guys, it should work.

  • I have been silent all this time but I still play A&A a LOT! Your 1942 is forever one of my favorites. Thanks again for this great contribution!

  • Just finished a game with the Europe only setup. Had to make a few modifications (changed the artillery piece in Paris to a tank and the artillery in Western Germany to a mech; pulled a few subs/tanks from my 1941 game) due to the Germany setup requiring more pieces than the game comes with. Other than that, had an absolute blast, definitely seemed balanced. Thanks.
