Still super busy? I still have enough games of A&A going that I am not going to pressure you to play yet, just curious how life’s going
-
I will wait a long time (weeks or more) without claiming it over, so do not stress about me,
Hope life is good
-
Has been more than 3 months, do you still intend to come back to this one?
-

Calling the game… bummer…
Will rescind the result and continue if you come back and want to play. Hope all is well.
-
Hey, would you like to continue this one as well? 😁
-
Yes. I’m quite busy and almost overwhelmed at times these days, but I think when a league player offers to continue a game if the missing player comes back that in most cases that should be granted.
This looks like a great game and we got the first 2 rounds out of the way -
Game on! Your turn
I do want you to promise not to bump me or time me out. But if you win, I will change the game result, so it’s actually not “just for fun”
-
You are such a great guy! Let’s assume we simply had a ceasefire going on 😄
I was really busy for some time but the itch to play has become too strong. I want to play games again.
Naturally, you can take as long as you want. If I can take a year to do a turn then so can you! Would you like me to remind you of your turn when it has been a couple of days?
-
Reminders are just fine,
I just need to know I should feel no anxiety - I have too much of that for other areas of my life.Ooh, that Russian tank is looking to raise a lot of money
Oh! I forgot that I actually did play against 2 Yunnan bid games, not just one. Well, I had a real bad time in my other, against the Yunnan bid and Russia grabbing 5 NO’sYeah, a lotta game left to play, that’s why I said “bummer”…
-
Only two games? I thought the Yunnan gambit would be more common!

It is, but I haven’t been back to OOB too long, and in one playoff game I proposed that we share our bid placement openly while we bid, so that I know I’m not facing a Yunnan bid.
-
Also, :) to face a Yunnan bid I must necessarily be playing the Axis, and I don’t always play the Axis, so yeah, you were only the 2nd time

Pretty exciting
I don’t think I’ve ever had someone come back the next year ready to finish the game
Will be really fun to get re-oriented -
When and why did you go back to OOB? And who are you playing right now?
-
And do you do the Yunnan bid when you are playing the Allies?
-
Well I enjoy fielding questions like that.
I would never do the Yunnan bid myself, because my personal opinion is that Japan is designed to take Yunnan J1. A bid against Germany (of limit 1 per territory) doesn’t stop Germany from attacking any particular normal G1 target. In contrast, the Yunnan bid allows 3 or more extra units on Yunnan and that is a lot more disruptive and I think actually goes against the intent of 1 bid unit per territory.
Not only that, but I really like having UK bid units on Europe board. After that, I like Russian infantry on Germany’s eastern front, which happens to reflect historical reality more than Russian planes stopping Japan cold, deep in China. But I’m still not a big fan of making A&A more like history all the time. But some is good.
OOB question later
-
Would you allow me to make a NCM change? I would move the two fighters from Gibraltar to Syria instead of Trans Jordan, and move the two mechanized and the tank also to Syria, instead of Iraq.
It has been some time after my turn, and I also don’t know if you have already contemplated your italian turn. So if you don’t allow that’s fine.
-
No I haven’t looked so go ahead,
Thanks for asking -

When and why did you go back to OOB? And who are you playing right now?
To see what people have been playing go to the “player query” tab of the ELO spreadsheet and type in someone’s name. There, you could see that my last BM game finished 8/17/24.
BM was exciting when it came out because it was a variant with a lot of new rules to learn and figure out how to master. Several were very attractive, like making the Japan vs. Russia DOW interesting instead of meaningless. At some point in OOB history, there was a +10 IPC cash infusion to Russia or Japan if the other declared war. It ended up in 2nd edition to just be Mongolia.
BM addressed various areas of OOB that most people didn’t like.
From memory,- US doesn’t make enough money, doesn’t have enough NO’s.
- A lot of islands with no IPC value
- ANZAC and India can be squashed by Japan “too easily”. India only making 6 not perceived as enough - people didn’t like unstoppable India Crush.
- People didn’t like China losing the 6 IPC NO and not being able to get it back and being made more irrelevant. So these changes were all about slowing Japan. The garrison rule in China.
- Apparently they thought the Med was way under-valued, so put a bunch of NO’s in there
- Yunnan bid smashed by a rule that Russia can’t go into China until at war.
There’s probably more.
After awhile, I actually realized I liked OOB better.
It’s quite a bit simpler. It just needed a bit bigger bid than the 20 we ended up at when BM was made.
I strongly disagree with all these NO’s in the Med and with the idea that all islands should have income values. Most islands are valuable as landing spaces and places to build bases, even with 0 IPC value. If you follow the IPC value philosophy, then Bessarabia should be worth something.
I don’t like the China garrison rule and nerfing the Burma road to 3. I don’t think more NO’s were needed. I don’t have a problem with a capital being sacked more than once - that’s A&A. I don’t have a problem with OOB treatment of Paris liberation. Then there’s the fact that OOB is what is played out there, since it’s the standard game.
Your 3rd question,
I have been playing Oysteilo for over 2 years on a single game. It was one of my first coming back to OOB. He did the Yunnan bid, and that and the fact that I suffered a bottom 4% result in Paris has made it a very long slog. We played with a new map skin and were both disoriented for several rounds. It was supposed to be just a fun and crazy - try out a cool new map skin game and quickly turned into a very competitive game. They’re waiting on me to finally start the 2nd OOB playoff game for 2024. Yeah, 2024.
So I’m probably not really supposed to be taking on any new challenges at all, but finishing an old game is not a new game. -
