      You may still want to send the overkill as interception scrambles are becoming more and more common and so sending extra bombers to hit the bases (or just the factory) and also tacs and fighters is smart as free casualties, and overkill is a method of deterrence, not just damage-dealing.

      The total power/money imbalance (Ger v USSR) of the Dark Skies is so great that guaranteeing the 20 damage on Moscow must be worth 1 bomber lost per run, because our house players consistently bomb Moscow into dust turn after turn losing 1 bomber on average per round (to AAA and interception).

      @simon33:

      So you’re saying an attacking fighter has moved 4 spaces to attack and the attack includes a CV which is its only landing spot, but the CV is taken as a hit and you then retreat? The fighter would be lost. So you wouldn’t do that. Take the fighter as a hit first and the CV lives to fight another day. Even if its only value is a 1/3 chance of hitting something.

      Thank you very much! It is all clear now.

      @UKcommander:

      That does not preclude a player from moving from a friendly territory, into a second friendly territory, and then into a hostile territory two spaces away does it?

      That is exactly what the rules prevent. You must use your full movement to enter a hostile territory (one that contains no friendly units); think of this in the same way that you can’t move ground units before loading onto a transport.

      You can move units multiple spaces into a contested territory though, and they would participate in an attack in said contested territory if you made one.

      Flying the fighter to the US Carrier? Ooh, never actually considered that.

      Although, I think no matter what you do, you must kill the defenseless Japanese transport, slowing their onslaught into Asia.
      I tried Borneo, but in all honesty, the UK can’t hold it, so is it going to work in the long term?

      I am thinking about this for my next game…

      Amphibious assault into French Indo-China with 3 infantry & fighter & cruiser bombard. Carrier destroys transport. Fighter lands in China, optionally with the one from Russia for 2 infantry & 3 fighter defense. US factory in Sianking.

      In our games, we are in a trend where the US builds a factory in Sianking with Russian (two inf.) support, which is making the games more even as it stops the Japanese steamroll to Moscow.
      I am sure three planes in China will be taken as a sure sign of a US factory in Sianking.
      Even if the amphibious fails, wiping out the French-Indo infantry leaves Japan with 2 fewer men to attack China. Manchuria needs some defense from the Russians, and they need something to attack French-Indo, if the attack was successful.

      Japan may retaliate with an all-in to China, which is 1 Bomber, 4 Fighters, but assuming at least one man is left behind for Manchuria, only 4 infantry going in.
      With three fighters (one US, one Russian, one UK) the Japanese may take enough losses so that it: a) cannot not take China, b) take with one or two men.

      It then would have very few if any men actually on the land territories of Asia, and Russian, English and American troops able to challenge the three 3 IPC territories.
      Japan may even hold off on a factory purchase if it thinks it may lose the factory?

      In any case, this is taking a lot of attention away from attacking the US, and any attempt to do so would result in an even stronger hold of China.
      The US can observe what Japan does, and possibly even hold China for a 2nd factory there, if things go horribly on the Japanese open.

      You use a movement point every time you cross a border between two zones, whether they be sea or island zones.  When you leave an island, you cross the border into the sea zone and use one movement point.  When you enter an island, you cross the border from the sea zone and use one movement point.  When you move from one sea zone to another, you use one movement point.  Conversely, if you don’t cross a border between zones, you don’t use a movement point.

      Does this help?

      If you haven’t seen it already the official FAQ can be found here:

      http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/faqs/axisdday

      Is fighter strafing a targeted attack? Say three fighters are in the same territory as three moving enemy units: an infantry, an artillery, and a tank. Are three dice rolled for the infantry, then three for the artillery, and three more for the tank? Or are nine dice rolled and for any 1s that are rolled, the defender chooses casualties?
      The dice rolls are targeted, so there’s no choosing of casualties. It’s best to roll all the fighters’ dice against one moving unit, then do the same for the next moving unit. In the example, roll three dice for the infantry, three for the artillery, and three for the tank.

      In your case one per fighter per unit that moves. It is best also to roll against each unit that is brought into a reinforcement zone as it comes off the charts as well.
