    When the US attacked the Italian fleet with bombers, surface ships, and subs, all the Axis hits, including the 2 from the three German fighters, were directed at the subs. Without the Italian DD, the 2 hits from the German fighters would have had to go against the 2 US DDs. The US bombers would still have received no hits, but better to take out 2 DDs than 2 SS.

    You are quite possibly right, but would like to continue for the time being. I should not have placed the Italian sub with the Med fleet. This would have directed all Axis ship and air fire at US ships and aircraft.

Should have sent them to SZ 6,  Was planning to send a DD to SZ 16 to block the US fleet, but during the NCM realized too late that  you had built a naval base at Wake and had multiple routes to SZ 6.
