13L G40 NT Arathorn (Axis) vs. Infrastructure (Allies +13)

  • @Infrastructure:

If me not declaring war with france truly yruly affected your german turn, explain to me what you would have done different if france had declared war on japan?

Couple thoughts on this.  First, the burden should not be on your opponent, who did not make a mistake but denied your request on the basis that the next turn had been done and dice had been rolled.
Second, Arathorn said he could explain it after Russia goes.
Third thought, isn’t this all about a French destroyer that could block an invasion of India?  It is not hard to believe that such a thing could affect the German turn - how aggressive the Axis player wants to be, anticipating that he will be able to take India.  If he allows you now to make a retroactive DOW that blocks off India from falling on this Japan turn, it is not unbelievable that he would have wanted to handle Germany differently

If you consider that a tactical error you are incorrect.  it was a human error.  If you want a win more than a good game the way it was meant to play out.  Then say that now, so i dont waste more of my time.

Type of error does not matter.  When I have a unit on the other side of the board that I don’t usually have, and I forget to move it, I can’t expect my opponent to allow me to move it later 100% of the time.

But this is a tough one.  What it comes down to, though, is that Infrastructure “took his finger off the queen” (chess analogy).  It is common practice in league play to allow changes/edits to your opponent even after he takes his finger off the queen.  But once the next player starts making his move and especially if he has rolled any dice, he has no obligation, not even a gentlemanly one, to grant retroactive changes.  He starts making his move based on the set of facts, the board situation, that is presented him at the beginning of his turn.
Now it would be really nice of Arathorn to grant the change and re-do his Germany turn, but he is under no obligation to do so.  (I haven’t looked at your map or his German turn)  And it is not cheap for him to deny your request.

I have been burned by neglecting to declare war against Japan with France before (allowing the Japanese to ignore my French destroyer the next turn).  You only make that mistake once.

I think you made the right assessment Gamerman.

    Are we continuing Infrastructure?
I could have given you the 2nd bump today, but haven’t done it.

  • 2 things to say.

Know this anyone who reads this thread;  I would and will always allow an opponent to redo a move like this.  I find it ridiculous and repulsive not to.

Everything arathorn(not even close to deserving the name of that or any Numenorean) has said makes it clear he knows that I made a small mental slip that will cost me the game and he would rather have that win then truly defeat me.  So when I lose this game I will have no distaste in my mouth as I did not lose against a worthy opponent.

infra, i can say that Arathorn is worthy of the title, and i think that he almost certainly would have granted your request had you asked nicely.  when you are the one in the wrong, it almost never pays to demand that things be done.

I need scramble orders for sz39 (India)

You can scramble 2 ftrs and 1 tact.

    I have 1 battleship, 2 carriers, 2 cruisers, 3 destroyers and 1 fighter there.

  • 19 13

I have now rolled all the battles except for India. (see attached file)

I will now roll the battle as if you did not scramble, as scrambling would not cause any significant losses to the fleet, and your planes can do more damage against my ground units, giving you a hope of retaking India.

Should you want to scramble instead, I will reroll both battles. Just let me know if you want to scramble.

The map posted is the valid map if you decided to not scramble.
As said, should you want to scramble instead, 1 or more planes, let me know, and I will immediately reroll the sz battle and then the India battle, and do my NCM over right away. Should be only minor tweaks.

  • I indeed would have scrambled the tact bomber.

But I must say that the first round of dice minus your bombardments and my tact should stand.
If you disagree lets ask gamerman or jen for a decision.

  • 19 13

Then we reroll from scratch, it’s as simple as that. I’m surprised you even would suggest what you did.

I have now edited the original map that had no scramble to the correct result from the India battle where you indeed did scramble the tactical.

As you can see in the file with only the sz battle and India battle, it is now correct.

    @Infrastructure:

    2 things to say.

    Bold,

I do not beg and I would never consider making someone beg when it was obvious what they meant to do.  Especially when nothing I could have done with germany would have affected the what they had chose to do.

    Bold,

I do not beg and I would never consider making someone beg when it was obvious what they meant to do.  Especially when nothing I could have done with germany would have affected the what they had chose to do.

First off, I am sorry you feel this way Infrastructure. I have nothing against you, and as everybody else has said when they saw the map, they can understand perfectly how your moves could influence how Germany would set the pace in Europe as the map was when I started it.

I offered an explanation after Russia’s move, but you attacked me instead, and you’ve made several very strange accusations.

I hope we can continue and finish this game in a good way. Just because I said no to your previous request, does not mean that I will say no to other requests you may have in the future.

    Yours,
    The Numenorean

  • For what it’s worth Infrastructure, I do see how the situation in the Pacific could impact the pace of play your opponent (the Numenorean) would choose to press. Yeah, sure there’s not really much what Germany could do right now that would tactically impact what Japan does and vice versa. But strategically it’s a whole other ball game.

I do it all the time myself. If one half of the board is struggling, I might press more on the other side to either draw some heat to that side and/or try to pick up the slack.

As far as all the snide remarks and comments, you’re not going to win yourself many friends by launching personal attacks on someone that many (including myself) see as an honest, fair, and worthy opponent. Rather, you’re probably at greater risk of alienating others by pursuing the personal attacks than you are of swaying players to your view. I recently had a disagreement with someone and although I thought (and still think) I’m in the right, that doesn’t mean I should stoop to personal attacks just because the ruling was not in my favor.

I’ve found you to be a pretty fair opponent in our game to date and I also have a lot of respect for Arathorn as a player and as a person. You can still disagree with him if you wish. But the snide comments are unbecoming of you.
