• Hmmm, oh well, I will just go ahead with this one, I think if I screw around with the pixel size it will not look the same. Is that right? I mean I just reduced the pixel size then on my computer to make the map smaller, and it doesn’t look at good. I know the more pixels you have in a smaller area the better, but when you reduce pixel size from a previous size it doesn’t look at good, is that right?

I wonder if the cost would be less if you had them make it in 3 pieces instead of the one large piece.
Then have them mounted on foamboards. you can then tape them together on the back of the boards so that they can be folded up for easy storage.
I have used cardboard cutting boards for other maps, these are used by seamstresses/tailors. They have pressed seams in them for folding already. I imagine that you can get them from most any store that sells fabric and sewing materials.

  • Yeah good point Ivan, but with laminated boards, you can just as easily roll em up and put em away. The only negative to this is that without holding the board down you can’t prevent it from curling up. I think blue-tack will solve this easily however…

  • I got it, the original size 3 feet by 5 and a half feet. Looks awesome! It actually ended up fitting my table somehow, maybe those dogs down at Kinko sneakily reduced the size by an inch. Nonetheless I am happy, they said three days, and it was ready today, so only a day wait. Anyways I attached my picture for all those who’d like to view.

That is a sweet map and it’s great that you have so much more room to play with on the European front, which is the most needed. I think I’ll save my pennies for the A&A Anniversary Edition.

  • Ohhhh, that map is sexy! :-D
Please don’t tell my wife I said that :|

Great map, I will be printing one of these myself.

  • Hey ive been a forum browser for some time now, but i figure to post my experience here too. I bought the map off that site a few months back. Boy is it HUGE lol. I love it, there is so much room to play on it now. But being so big, rolling up was a challenge as the paper would want to crinkle and all. And it just was missing that certain extra thing……lamination. So i went over to Kinkos and got it laminated for about $35. Its now 100% better. I love it! I even suggested to the guy at that site who sells this map to offer lamination, it offers world of difference and i would of paid for it to be laminated had it been offered. Overall good stuff.

  • I thought the map came laminated when you ordered it off their site??

Considering the price is $35 I doubt it…

  • Then what was Francis Marion and Imperious Leader talking about earlier in this thread???

  • If you buy the map from the site…its laminated… thats the only thing i posted.

I also downloaded the map from Bionic Donkey.  Like General Steiner, I live in Australia so I decided to get it printed here instead of having Bionic Donkey ship it over.

I got it printed on 5mm PVC with a matt laminate.  The PVC is pretty flexible so it adapts if you have an uneven surface (for instance, if you had to put two tables together to have enough room for the board).  The matt finish is to diffuse any glare on the board coming from over head lights (I have many over head lights downstairs where the board is set up).

The best thing about this board (other than the size) is that it has the unit placement marked on the board which makes it so much faster to setup.  And I must say that playing on this board for a couple of months warps your perception of the original board.  I look at that board and wonder how I managed to fit all the units in those little territories before.  This big board is a luxury, and I’m spoiled.

  • That matt laminated finish is really nice. I noticed also you did yours with a border, very cool. I didn’t do the border, because as you can see with my table any wider and it would not have fit. Playing on the larger board is definitely superior to the old smaller one, so much so that I would have to say that it adds to the gameplay experience. It appears us Aussies have a taste for the finer things in life, haha.

  • Wow!  That board is incredible!  I can’t wait to get my hands on one…

  • Sime,

    Thanks for the pics.
