• I see holding shift also allows you to scroll left and right on the map with the mouse wheel…. chances are good you already know that though

  • OK, found the help menu….

Noted that the shift/scroll left and right capability was omitted, though  :-D

  • OK, I find this very funny -

I can’t figure out how to play.  How do I purchase units?

  • '12

let me open the map, i’ll walk you through it.

  • NM - got it

  • I had to go to “actions”, then click “done” for the Germans

  • Hmm, this brings back good memories of the Hasbro 1998 CD game of the Classic A&A….  Purchasing units screen is very similar

  • '12

correct.  don’t worry, you will be a pro in no time, if you don’t get too frustrated first.  trust me, it’s all there and it works very well.

  • '12

the purchase unit screen allows you to play around very quickly and cleanly for various purchase options.

why did you attack korea?  :-)

  • Well, the Mongolian rules are very confusing, but if I understand them correctly,
if the Russians attack Korea before Japan attacks Russia, then the Mongolians will never join the Russians.
Mongolia does become a strict neutral now, right?  So Japan cannot attack Mongolia without making all strict neutrals in the world go pro-Allies.  If I’m wrong, and Monglia can be attacked by Japan without any effect on the rest of the world, then I wouldn’t have done it.

If I’m right (and of course I’m pretty sure I am or I wouldn’t have done it - kind of hoping you know the Mongolian rules and can confirm), then Japan will not be able to use Mongolian territory in the future, and that is huge.  The Chinese front and the East Russian front can never be easily joined by Japan if Mongolia is a true neutral.  Given your 100% kill Russia strat on G1, I figure it’s likely you will attack East Russia with everything on J1 and proceed to take over Mongolia in the next few rounds.

If I’m right, and Mongolia is a true neutral now for the rest of the game, then I think pre-emptively attacking Japan is brilliant, given my limited G40 experiences with Alpha3.  If I’m wrong, well, I just wasted an infantry and I can’t move the other 6.

  • Clearly, the biggest attraction of Triple A is that you can move things on the map without having to switch back and forth to the internet to type in the moves.
But I am dreading having to force it to comply with the rules when it doesn’t follow them properly, and it looks like that happens more often than I would like…  That was the biggest downfall of GTO online’s program - except there you had no way to edit and force it to follow the rules.  Still remember the glitch with the Suez canal that didn’t count plane movement points correctly  :x

  • @Boldfresh:

why did you attack korea?   :-)

I was trying to wipe out 4 infantry and a fighter, and gain 3 IPC’s in income

I sent this guy, so I thought it would work.

I think if japan attacks mongolia at any time all strict neutrals become pro allies.  If russia has not attacked any japanese territory bordering mongolia then if japan attacks mongolia then mongolias become russians instantly.  I thought this also made all strict neutralspro allied whether japan had violated the pact or not.

  • @Boldfresh:

I thought this also made all strict neutralspro allied whether japan had violated the pact or not.

    I don’t understand what you’re saying here.

I will ask on the rules thread that I didn’t know was started a couple of months ago by freaking IL without telling us.  I don’t look through the boards for new threads.

  • No need to ask.  I re-read the rules as printed in the 2nd edition rulebook, and it is clear.  Mongolia is a strict neutral, and if Japan ever invades it, all neutrals in the world will turn pro-allied.

So Japan can really only invade Mongolia a turn after it has turned Russian, by Japan invading one of the forbidden territories.  Which is exactly what Karl would always do, and it was an advantage to the Axis because of the strategic location and great size of Mongolia.  The only way to stop this is to invade Manchuria or Korea on R1.  Game on

  • My invasion of Korea is partly a protest of the Mongolia rules, and a statement of my belief that the rules actually favor the Axis more than the Allies when manipulated.  Once again, I think Larry blew it.  Just like he blew it when allowing Major IC’s to be built anywhere there was a territory of 3 IPC’s or more (people were apparently building USA majors in Norway and overwhelming the Europe theater.  Also, Japan could build major in Singapore and overwhelm the Allies inordinately).

I think Larry is like Dr. Frankenstein.  He’s brilliant, but not capable of properly using his creation.  Many of his new rules and tweaks do not have the intended effect

    Unlimited island-only scrambling, anyone?

  • '12

you can only build a major in originally controlled territories, you know.

  • @Boldfresh:

you can only build a major in originally controlled territories, you know.

Right, that’s my point.  He had to change that rule after he realized he’d screwed up.  Again.
