BTW - I had done Italy in E Africa - Thanks
-
I am not a medical practitioner, no, but I have done many a dumbass thing that has lead to bruised ribs, and have had hobbies where breathing exercises were mandatory.
Looking forward to digging through the last round. I don’t understand your comment on Italy, but It’ll probably be clear when I see it in the game history.

I just noticed that you did not move your sub-saharan african Italian units on I1.
If you would like to ret-con this, I am all for it. It’s a potential +2 more IPCs (the French destroyer was there to convoy Taganyika/Kenya at the time) depending on where you might want to move them.
I was just letting you know that I had moved them tes.

I don’t have much to say about Japan other than that you’re being very conservative, and if I had to guess, are planning to send a lot of Japanese people into Russia from the backside. If that’s not the plan, then I am confused. I say this because you have bought a lot of land units and no facilities for your planes/fleet.
The hit on the chinese stack pretty much ended any chance they had of being dangerous for you, but it cost you five planes to do it. I don’t know if that was worth it.
And yeah, I see what happened in Africa. Taking away that 5 IPC NO from UK Atlantic, damn you!
Now we need scrambles off of Italy into 97, again! The british are hellbent on making sure there are no italian boats left.
UK:
2x DD
1x CR
2x FT
1x Tac
1x StratITA:
1x TT
1x DD
1x CR
and a potential 3 fighter scrambles -
Mmm! Tough call. But let’s show those Brits what we are made of and scramble everything. That’ll teach them! Grrr!
-
That’s exactly what I didn’t want to see :|
-
Britain scores 3 out of 7 hits with 1x DD and 2x tac/strat bombers. (and you should be getting the dice emails?).
You have 5 units: 1 DD, 1 CR, 3 Fighter.
Losses?
-
Also worth noting to remember: There is an Italian TT in the sea zone as well.
-
Not looking good! DD & 2 figs as casualties and hope I throw good dice!
-
Britain has no subarmines. If you don’t mind my second guessing you, why lose the fighter that throws a 4 instead of the cruiser that’s throwing a 3?
-
Sorry tes - you are quite right then.

I still need to make my British non-coms, but I’m at work and time has run out, sadly.
Hopefully tonight.
-
You only came out of sz97 with +7. I assume you hoped to do much better than that?
-
+7 IPCs?
I don’t normally care about IPC swings. Italy’s income is junk at this stage in the game (and now, hopefully forever). The UK economy is not great, but it is better. Italy’s naval units are very hard to replace, if not impossible at this point with British dominance in the med. Therefore, their units have a higher intrinsic value, especially in the short term, than those of Britain. I would have liked to have lost one less UK plane, for sure, but them’s the breaks.
I’d have still done this fight without the Indian ocean destroyer coming up, and instead would have sent the battleship. Had that been the case, the IPC swing would have actually favored Italy. Even if that were the case, I’d consider it a positive outcome, as Italy is never going to be able to replace both its fleet and its air force. The chances of an effective Italian can-opener on Moscow have been reduced to nearly zero. The chances of Italy ever threatening Gibraltar or Egypt are 0% in the next couple of turns.
I chose to destroy most of the RAF if it meant destroying Italy’s offensive viability, knowing full well Moscow would be more vulnerable because of it. The trade-off being that the UK can now (hopefully) turn the middle east into a fortress. This should allow them to:
1: directly support Calcutta or, more likely, at least have a safe place for the Indians to run to should Japan come over
2: discourage or interrupt a Japanese invasion through China
3: delay the germans by at least two turns if they wish to take the middle east oil fields (including the caucasus)
4: prevent the germans from taking both moscow and the middle east–they must now choose one or the otherThere’s a reason that people who play with bids (who are pussies, to be clear) basically always put a sub in the med to cripple Italy early.
I wrote this response over the course of the last two hours in between watching things compile at work, so if it’s broken and makes no sense, please accept my apologies.

Hey tes
I do find these inter-turn posts valuable.
Do you really not “care” about TUV swings? I agree with not being focused on them - otherwise J’s air would not have attacked that Chinese stack despite the inevitability of a big negative TUV swing. But I do care.
G is happy to choose between Moscow and the middle east!
Italy is junk! But the UK’s air going is some compensation. It’s going to be interesting to see how the eastern front pans out.
-
Well, they are a measure of an outcome of a fight, but a very imperfect one, let’s put it that way. No, I never like seeing the loss of 18 IPCs to kill 6, but in certain instances, it’s more than worth it. (For instance 2x tank + 1 bomber vs. 2 infantry that are blocking your ally’s advance.)
If all nations had the same economic clout, and the positioning was not so utterly important in this game, then TUV swings would matter. But that is definitely not the case, so they definitely don’t matter some times, and I’d argue most of the time (assuming opposed players of equal skill).
Taking non-coms now.
