    it could work if you had more of a plan for Japan.

    Maybe they DOW J4 or not at all?  Attack Russia with Japan to take some of the edge off?  Dunno, I’ve been trying to figure it out myself.  The Norway factory was different, but you ended up defending it instead of pushing into a Northern Victory city.

    Maybe instead build up some navy for constant troop landings in Finland?

    Yeah I never know what to do with Japan.  I just figured if I take India out then the allies wouldn’t have much in the center of the board, but then there’s Russia.  evn with its forces split in 2 directions Russia had enough to threaten on both fronts.  The problem with this north + south attempt was that I didn’t have enough left over to push much of anything into the center, AND build up a defense for Spain.  So a pretty big flop all in all, but I wanted to give it a try.  Oh well.
