Comforting to know the French are able to sink a transport

Congratulations - you got me to play a full round of a game in AAA - that is a first.
Things I like about this program
- Wrap-around USA - this is wonderful - better even than playing the board game (since Larry didn’t bother to have the USA on the East line up with the USA on the West, nor the sea zones - VERY POOR)
- A lot of the units look pretty cool once you get used to them. I especially like that a lot of the units look like the ones from the Board game (especially mech) and the unique artillery units of each country (esp Italy) The AA guns are great.
- Obviously, not having to type everything or switch between the internet and the program all the time
- Obviously, not having to check everything on the map every turn, and less downloading and then opening up in the program
- Changing the color of the territories, as I said before. (Kind of wish the neutrals would become a solid color too, though)
Good to see the Yukon territory change was an easy fix for them.
Well, I’m just going to keep it positive. My critical points about AAA from before remain… But I see that playing G40 in AAA will be very fun, so thanks for persisting. :-)
-
By the way, did you know that in earlier versions of G40, Berlin only had a minor industrial complex? And there was no minor in Ukraine.
WHAT WAS HE THINKING? A MINOR in BERLIN??
Things I like about G40
- Russia is appropriately huge
- Oceans are appropriately huge
- Air bases and naval bases
- Repairable capital ships
- Australia is divided up into multiple territories
- Scotland and Eire
- Pro-Axis and Pro-Allied neutral rules
- 3 ZERO IPC territories in Russia - love it
- Minor vs. Major complexes and their rules.
- SBR and interceptor fights. +2 Strat bomb damage
- That Russia territory is only worth 3.
- That you can’t build IC’s on islands or 1 IPC territories.
- No majors on non-original territories
- Mechanized infantry
- Tech tokens are gone
- Strait and canal rules, especially the new Danish straits and strait of Gibraltar
- That it is possible to bring in all the true neutrals and earn money off them.
- That Persia is 3 territories, and only one has infantry and income
- Massively expanded Mediterranean
Again, I’ll keep it positive today, and not repeat all my scathing criticisms of the shortcomings of this game. :-)
-
Oh and
- China is appropriately huge
- China rules, and that they actually can get an NO and buy artillery
- Split UK economies, but combined forces (brilliant)
- New AA rules (did you know I talked Larry into reducing the cost back to 5?) 8-)
-
Yikes, it’s almost impossible to tell the ANZ boats apart from the USA boats…. this could be problematic in the future…
yes, but when you look on the territory tab, it separates the boats nicely.
-
i agree let’s play tech, since we are just messing around… i haven’t played a G40 tech game yet, and don’t know if i even know all the techs - are they listed in the ruleset?
-

I trust you’ll forget to do that at a key moment!
-

Sure, in the global rules.
Dude, it’s too late to approve tech, I already rolled one with the USA! Too bad I didn’t get improved shipyards - you might not have even known I had it for awhile
-
Paratroopers are very unique, so you need to read about those.
Rockets are launched from airbases, not AA guns
LRA is +1 (We knew this was a much needed improvement before Larry did! 8-))
Improved mechanized infantry totally sucks - it’s worse than advanced artillery!!Jet fighters do nothing for tacticals (basically makes them completely obsolete except for their SBR ability)
Those are the biggest changes from AA50
You’d better read up on them, yes.
I think all G40 games should be with tech, since there are no tokens and so very few breakthroughs will ever make their way into most games.Oh, and China can’t roll for tech. I checked with Krieghund. Everybody else can.
-
what is improved mech?
-
It’s a joke. Well, it used to be a joke.
Mechanized infantry THAT IS PAIRED WITH A TANK attacks at 2 instead of 1.
Along the way, Larry added that mech can blitz by itself too. But it’s still pretty bad. I mean, you’re taking off the mech first in a fight, right, so how many rolls are you even making where you’re trying for a 2 instead of a 1.
Paratroopers are cool, though. Read it and let me know if you have any questions. At least you don’t have to guard everything within 6 (or 8) spaces of every bomber paired with an infantry any more.
-
nice to see you pointing out the positives of tripleA! it does have its downsides of course, but for global, it makes the game imminently more playable and i think still favors the more meticulous player that knows the rules best, although perhaps not as much as battlemap.
-
Every playing medium will favor the one who is more detail oriented and knows the rules. I don’t understand how this would be a point of difference between Triple A or Battlemap… is it because Triple A has a lot of the rules programmed in, so you are prevented from breaking many of them? But then Triple A also tends to reinforce the WRONG rules by allowing them and thus training players to think they know the rule, only to find out in a big meaningful game that the Triple A engine was dead wrong

Sorry.
I will start playing again soon. -
we really do not need to continue this. i am completely full of games so do not do anything here on account of me - remember this was purely to get you to try out tripleA. as i think you will agree, tripleA has enough strengths to outweigh its weaknesses and you are now open to using it to play G40 which was the entire purpose.
happy new year!
-
Yeah.
Stalker!
Thanks for giving me permission to quit. You didn’t have some new strategy you wanted to try out? That was a ruse?
I think you’re going to bowl over Russia, although I hadn’t looked at doing the R2.But yes, thanks for taking a game off my plate so it doesn’t nag at me.
And remember, if you want a G40 partner I’m interested. I think one of the best qualities of G40 is its multiplayer play. After all, US/China/UK doesn’t look as overwhelming if you’re not doing both UK and US…
