@SeaYa I might do that physical option. It’s a split nine to ten hour with two stops, one down and one back. That would work pretty well, if a bit different.

Yep gonna do the AA guns in a generic grey and most of the IC’s in a redbrick look. However, I plan to paint all the nations starting IC’s thematically and leave them in the individual nation bits boxes.
That overseas company looks ok, and are reasonably priced. My 40k models are of that standard or higher already so I doubt I woudl use them.
Omega
Give it a go, just be prepared to pay a bit. After all, even painting 670 models to a lowish standard takes a long long time.
Pan
Don’t know of anyone who sells painted AA models. I know if I was to do another set i would charge a fortune as its very time consuming.
Thanks all for the comments and compliments. Japan will hopefully be done in the next 2-3 weeks and I will post them up once i’ve finished.

Phase Three is complete, and not a moment to soon! Too many damned ships!
Moving on the the UK next, planning on doing the armour and artillery in 8th armour colours. And I need to figure out how to do little union jacks. PS. I will be redoing some of the german and Russian ships with flags as well.

I really like the infantry.
But I think the naval units shouldn´t be shiny metal.
They are a bit too “gamey”,
meaning that they look cool for playing, but they don´t
really look like warships IMHO :-)
I paint myself and know that if they look like real ships
your fellow players can´t distinguish between the naval units.Quote one of my co-players (after submarines mess-up)
“Why don´t you just paint them the same color ?”(instead of all looking greyish)
“Then there wouldn´t be any reason to paint them!” (they allready have their own colors)Check out my italians:
-
Yeah, it was a conscious decision to paint them in that way. No Japanese ship in WWII had big orange waterline markings as far as i’m aware of.
95% of my painting background is in men and tanks, i had never done ships before. So faced with the decision of
a.) Paint them super accurately, but harder to distinguish
b) paint them like game pieces, less accurate but easy to identifyI went with B, there are pros and cons to both sides. (Most of my friend are not military history freaks like me)
In fact it was yours and sam hills pictures on BGG that inspired me to do the painting in the 1st place, I saw your guys work and went “damm, thats cool, i reckon i should give this a go”. So thanks for the inspiration
For those who haven’t seen Sams job, its pretty good, especially the bases for his aircraft which he hand cast himself.
-
Relooking at your ships and sams, i may go back and repaint the metallics in codex grey on the ships.
I’ll do a demo and see how it looks.
After all, i think the german ships do look better in that regard

Stage 4, The British Empire!
For a New Zealander, this is essentially “The Home team” for me. Also, being in the NZDF has meant a lot of travel for me in the last month so this has taken a lot longer than normal to finish. Next up, the Italians.

Cheers IL
Italy is getting base coated tonight, probably less turn around on Italy than other nations, so 2-3 weeks, then I will do the chinese infantry (already been gifted a p-38 for the tigers!), then the US.
After that I plan to do the IC’s, and figure out a way to base the AA Guns so they look like flak towers (Thanks for the idea of flak towers whoever suggested that in the FMG pieces thread). Then I will go back and do flags for the German and Russian fleet capital ships.
Hopefully by the time this is done FMG will be brining out the first series of new pieces :)
-
Your painted pieces would be an inspiration to others to do the same. It certainly adds to the game as much as anything else.
-
Nice ones. 8-)
I think I have to start over again.
My italians were the last ones I finished, so the early countries
needs some repainting. So now you inspire me :-) -

Yeah I noticed.
Your flags are cool, but I have seen pictures of the RN-flag
as Englands flag (white w/red cross) and Union jack in top right corner. How do you store your naval units to protect the flags?

Yeah, I know the “real naval flags” are different to what i’m using, for example ill use the “red/white/green” for italy…… mainly as its SO much easier to paint, and people playing will recognize the national flag easier than the military flag.
As for storage I do nothing special. The flags are made out of high thickness art paper and are actually very very sturdy. I bend the paper in the middle, glue the rod in the centre, and then bend the paper back so its double sided. Then I paint on the metal rod. The flags are really stiff and sturdy.

Stage 5 Italian Forces

Just a quick update. I have finished the USA and China forces, the only thing left to paint is the AA guns and the Industrial Centers. The next time i update i will post pics of USA/China/AA/ICs and a few pics of the entire game setup.
Hopefully this will all be done by the end of the week.

The beast has been slain! I am essentially finished with this project! Pretty awesome sense of achievement to get it done. Im planning on going back and doing a few touch ups over the next week or two (Flags for the German and Russian carriers and battleships for example), but for all purposes my AA50 set is fully painted!
No full shots of everything set up yet, will do those over the next few days. Here are the last models painted

Good job. Pat yourself on the back :-)
Langley - Saratoga - Yorktown - Enterprise - Wasp and Hornet.
What did I win?4 of them sunk during WWII.
All of them ready for the outbreak of WWII.Shouldn´t the shark mouth be under the red dots?

these pics are really nice.

Close but not 100% Lexington instead of Langly, the others are correct. I have this massive 1000 page book of most of the machinery of WWII and the pictures of the US carriers show that some of them had the CV nmber on the deck. I had some transfers lying around and thought it would be a nice touch.
Not too sure what you mean about the red dot?
