I’ll make an alternative setup for Russia. I’m starting to think that this is our best bet to avoid Crushia. Invest some to put pressure on and destroy the northern contingent, thereby gaining income for Russia and denying Germany income from both Leningrad (although not likely to hold, but then G all of a sudden has to focus valuable resources north instead of east) and hopefully also Norway. That’s a 23 IPC-swing (11 for G, 12 for R).
G can’t start to build a shitload of fleet, so I’d say that Norway is lost for them. One way or another.
Also Japan might mess with the ability of the UK to support Moscow from Persia
If we lose one inf in Karelia, we need 5 figs in there. If we don’t, 4 will suffice. I’d say it’s worth it. Germany denies us our precious NO anyway, so that’s not a bother.
With 3 extra mechs on the attack, G has to land extra air in there for Finland not to be crushed. They’ll be a little displaced, but not so much since G wants to pressure R anyway.
Not sure the mechs are worth it. Maybe just go with 13 inf instead, but build 3 of them in Leningrad?
On the other hand, all air (except bombers) that stay in Finland, won’t be able to pressure Bryansk. Perhaps 1 inf is a small price for that benefit?

The fig could of course take part in the attack of either Vyborg or Karelia, but I find both those battles secure enough and like that the sub still convoy disrupts G.

I think Moscow will still be a near thing and you may lose much of the defensive advantage you gain by bringing the air if you do that. You may not be able to grab Finland after but he does get put out of position and you are in better shape to take Norway after with the allies on subsequent turns.

I agree. I like though that the mechs are very flexible. They may just pop down to Bryansk instead, if that’s suitable. Putting pressure and able to defend as well. Terrific unit!

Wouldn’t you agree that the air left to defend Finland will take much bite out of the pressure on Bryansk and subsequently Moscow?
A lot is gained if Russia is able to make a stand in Bryansk instead of immediately huddling in Moscow.

@trulpen I did a quick look. Bryansk wouldn’t be close even with significant allied air support. All the land units he has to take Moscow on G6 are in range + most of the air. And you are about 20 inf shy of what you would have in Moscow on G6. But you can still build hte mechs. Because he doesn’t have a safe northern route you can retreat to Vologda.
Wow, that is an aggressive turn after being so cautious up to this point.
For the purchase, perhaps consider 1 more fighter. They defend slightly worse than 3 inf, but I find that you can get good return on the investment by hindering bombing and helping in small skirmishes in areas around Moscow.
